The hottest hair and make-up trends from NYFW 2015

New York Fashion Week has come and gone, and while we didn’t sit front row, we did spy some hot new beauty trends (thank you, internet) from afar. You’ll be way ahead of the Aussie beauty pack with these five looks:

1. Tough lippie

It may still be summertime in the Southern Hemisphere, but dramatic, wintery make-up dominated New York Fashion Week. Oxblood red lips were all the rage at Phillip Lim, while a brighter, fire engine red reigned supreme at Monique Lhuillier. To get the latter look, we recommend Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lip Color in ‘Neon Red’.

If this bold lip look is a bit too edgy for you, take inspiration from Carolina Herrera, where a slightly sheerer berry shade made an impact without being too dramatic. For a similar effect, we love Avon Over Nature Lipstick in ‘Orchid Fantasy’.

2. The hair tuck

Perfect for beauties who want the look of a bob without actually getting the chop, the tousled hair tuck stole the show at Charlotte Ronson (below) and also BCBG, where stylists used Tresemme’s new Make Waves Creation Hairspray for texture. Personally, I love the effortless, bed hair vibe, but for a slightly more polished version, check out our faux bob how-to.

3. Sleek roots

The wet-look hair trend is nothing new, but this Fashion Week saw an emphasis on sleek roots alone, with contrastingly wayward strands at the ends. Donna Karen went with a relatively understated version, while Desigual opted for smooth roots giving way to fun, frizzy curls. Use a gel product such as VO5 Wet Look Styling Gel to get the look.

4. ‘No make-up’ make-up

Beauty editors often harp on about a ‘natural’ make-up look, but if the NYFW runway’s anything to go by, this season really is all about a bare face. The Tome and Tanya Taylor models went almost completely make-up free, which drew attention to their unruly, brushed-up brows. Now that’s a beauty look we can all replicate!

5. Peach lids

You may have to wait a little while to experiment with a tough lippie, but here’s a summer-ready make-up look you can try right now, courtesy of Thakoon (below) and BCBG. Try Shu Uemura Pressed Eye Shadow in ‘Vivid Orange’ or Borjois Little Round Pot Eyeshadows in ‘Rose Perle’ for a similar look.
