Autumn-worthy hair and make-up

Autumn-worthy hair and make-up

Isn’t this time of year just the best? It’s officially autumn, which means the boots are back, the jumpers are out and we get to play around with moodier tones, including Marsala, the brilliant hue chosen as 2015’s Pantone colour of the year. And while there are no set rules about colour play in beauty, we like to think autumn is all about berrys, browns, nudes and midnight blues.

Take a look at the cooler weather colours I’ll be wearing this season…

FOR HAIR

There’s nothing like a fresh ‘do to ring in a new season, and as a brunette, I like to make my colour a little richer. Nourish Naturals’ are great, not just because they’re Australian made and free from parabens and harsh chemicals, but they also have a huge range of shades of brown to choose from, like this and this. The Naturstyle Permanent Hair Colourant range is another good one. If you’re a little more daring side, move right into autumn with Garnier Color Sensation – their red hues are hard to beat!

FOR LIPS

As someone who isn’t hugely into pinks, I love experimenting with mulberry, red and nude lip tones. In the cooler months, colour adds life to a wardrobe full of black, grey and navy staples. Mix things up, and don’t be afraid of a darker pout! When I’m after a vermillion pop, I can’t go past the Mineralogie Devil’s Advocate Lipstick, or for a darker vibe, Models Prefer Lipstickis my go-to. I’m a total nudie-nutter, and have more nude lippies than any sane person could possibly need, but if you’re looking for the one, the L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Made-For-Me Naturalsis a no-brainer. A cult classic I can’t live without that suits everyone is MAC Rebel. And when the wind kicks in, I’ll keep a balm like Bobbi Brown Lip Balm SPF 15 Cue smooth, happy chap-free smoochers.

FOR NAILS

Call me old fashioned, but I love to match my nails to the season. And while there’s nothing wrong with a little colour during autumn, there’s something so chic about a dark, glossy manicure. The OPI Core Collection has every shade you could want, and Essie Darks are a are a manicured dream, but if you want to hold onto those warmer days, inject a little colour with hues of blue (I like Revlon Gel Envy in Wild Card and Australis Autumn Nail Colour in Blue Collar Babe) or the earthier Face of Australia Carnivale.

FOR EYES

Autumn calls for warmth, and not just in the way of clothing! Since summer tans are fading, cool eyeshadows can look a little harsh, so go for warm tones instead. I have blue eyes and brown hair, and find that brown and purple shadows suit me best. If you have similar colouring, I swear you’ll never look back after purchasing the MAC Eye Shadow x 15 palette in Warm Neutral. And though I love blending the colours of this palette together, when I’m in a rush, Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes glides on and stays put all day. When I want to amp up the drama, I’ll use navy instead of black because it blends better into my skin. The Yves Saint Laurent Couture Eye Palette has a gorgeous mix of navies and greens. Swoon.

I prefer a liner that blends into my make-up, which is why I love the Clinique Brush-On Cream Liner in deep brown. It’s a winner for me because the brush makes applying it as a liquid liner super easy, and smudging fuss-free. If I’m strapped for time, a kohl liner like MAX Factor Kohl Pencil takes seconds to apply.

FOR LASHES

Go on, add a little drama to your lashes this season. Give them a touch of luxe with La Prairie Treatment Mascara Instant Build, a thickening mascara which feels more like a treatment than anything else. For the perfect sculpt, try Natio Super Long Lash Mascara. Another big, bold mascara to try is the ModelCo Black Lengthening Mascara – smudge-proof and super black, it’s a total head turner.

FOR CHEEKS

Blush is one of the only things I don’t change up from season to season, just because I stick to a pretty neutral palette. If you’re like me, invest in the Bobbi Brown Brightening Brick, which features an array of warming pink shades. For more of a flush than a subtle hint of colour, the Chi Chi Mosaic Blush is right on point.

Do you change up your make-up in the cooler months? What colours do you wear?
