A dirty body equals great skin and hair?

Want great skin? Want fantastic hair? You can have it. All you need to do is shower once a week.

Wait, what? Shower once a week? Isn’t that considered unhygienic and rather gross? Most would say yes, and I would have to agree.

Yet according to the new trend ‘cleansing reduction’, which involves bathing just once a week, showering less is the key to great hair and skin. Why? Well, regular showering and hair washing strips the body of its natural oils, essentially leaving your skin and hair dehydrated.

According to a survey completed by British tissue manufacturer SCA, 41 per cent of British men and 33 per cent of women no longer shower every day in an attempt to gain better skin and hair health. Um, yuck.

To make your nose screw up even more, 12 per cent stated they only performed a ‘proper wash’ just once a week. Not so sure how I feel about that. Actually, yes I do. I’m very uncomfortable with it, as is my sense of smell.

But how are they getting away with adopting this pungent trend? They’re using the shower-in-a-can technique, otherwise known as applying spray-on deodorant. Hmm…

As an added bonus, showering less also leaves ‘good bugs’ on the skin, which boosts the body’s ability to fight germs and diseases. Brilliant.

Obviously, the environmentalists of the world love this new desire to stay stinky, because it means less water wastage. And although I’m an avid water-saver, I’m not sure this is one environmental-friendly bandwagon I’ll be jumping on anytime soon.

What do you think of this ‘cleansing reduction’ trend? Would you be willing to shower once or twice a week in an attempt to own better hair and skin? How often do you currently shower?
