The best selling perfumes of 2014

At first it was their reality shows that caught our attention, then fashion-lines, shoe collaborations, book releases and now it seems that celebrities can’t help but dip their toes in the perfume pool, either. And boy, are we paying attention.

These days it seems it’s not enough to just follow your fave celeb on Instagram or ask for the “Alexa lob”. We’ve been getting all hot under the collar over celebrity perfumes like they’re hot cakes!

From ten to one we’ve got the scoop on the most popular perfumes sold at Priceline pharmacies in 2014. Check out this years biggest stars on our celebrity smell-o-meter – you won’t believe who is at the top of this years list…

#10 Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely EDP 100mL, $29

Top: Lavender, bergamot, mandarin
Middle: Apple martini, rosewood, paperwhites, orchid
Base: Patchouli, musk, cedar, amber, woods

Clocking in at #10, SJP’s first fragrance is instantly recognisable with a soft yet undeniably sexy elegance, characteristic of classic fragrances. We love that SJP let her inner Carrie hit the heart of the fragrance with a sneaky hint of apple martini. Hello, NY.

#9 Katy Perry Meow EDP 100mL, $22

Top: Tangerine, pear, jasmine, gardenia
Middle: Honeysuckle, Lily of the valley, orange blossom
Base: Amber, vanilla, musk, sandalwood

After much success with her previous fragrance Purr, the cherry-lipped pop singer decided to opt for a much sweeter palette with her second perfume. Describing the fragrance as “edible”, Perry said her California Dream Tour played a huge role in choosing the notes. Considering she spent almost a year surrounded by oversized gummy bears, cotton-candy and peppermints, it’s little wonder where her inspiration came from. And considering it’s sitting at #9 on the best-sellers list, clearly Perry isn’t the only one with a sweet-tooth.

#8 Rihanna Reb’l Fleur EDP 100mL, $30

Top: Red berries, plum, peach
Middle: Hawaiian hibiscus flower, violet, tuberose, coconut water
Base: Vanilla, Amber musk

With an intense and daringly fruity chypre, the scent is deeply in tune with the Barbados-born beauties roots. The combination of the notes evokes the feeling of warm skin, and the splash of coconut water is incredibly refreshing, like a summer dip in the sea. In stark contrast, the shape of the bottle is inspired by the singers fondness for stiletto heels, and represents the glamour of her present life in New York. When perfume designers first met Rihanna and commented on her unique scent, she confessed to having created it by mixing and layering several different scents. The designers then analysed the fragrances, and so Reb’l Fleurwas born.

#7 Beckham Signature Men EDT 75mL, $19

Top: Mandarin, watermelon, sea notes
Middle: South African bush lantana blossom, cypress, juniper berry
Base: Moss, white amber, patchouli

The Beckham’s sure know how to make a man smell mighty fine. A masculine, mature fragrance with a scent that’s both delectable and versatile. Great for work, casual get-togethers or romantic evenings, the potion is intoxicatingly delicious, clean and crisp.

#6 Beckham Intimately Women EDT 50mL, $15

Top: White flowers, bergamot, rose petals
Middle: Casablanca lily, tuberose, orange blossom
Base: Vanilla, sandalwood, musk

Just one step ahead of the males (aren’t we always?!) this fragrance hits all the right notes. Sleek, chic and perfectly presented, the fragrance conveys a world of luxury and a woman’s self assured sense of style. The soft, romantic and whispering florals are mixed with musk and behind the subtle, modern freshness of the base notes there’s an empowering kick any woman will find completely irresistible. It’s a little piece of Posh in a bottle.

#5 Katy Perry Killer Queen EDP 30mL, $19

Top notes: Wild berries, dark plum, bergamot
Middle: Velvety red flower (Celosia), sambac jasmine, rainbow plumeria
Base: Cashmere, patchouli, liquid praline.

Named after the song written by Freddie Mercury, Katy Perry decided to dedicate this perfume to the lyrics of the Queen hit. “Freddie Mercury painted the lyrics of this woman who I wanted to be. She seemed very powerful, and she captivated a room when she walked in… I feel like I’m falling, finally, into that woman Freddie Mercury painted” she said. Strong, playful and edgy, the fragrance is a direct reflection of the rebellious spirit of the singer.

#4 One Direction Our Moment EDP 30mL, $34

Top: Pink grapefruit, wild berries, redcurrants
Middle: Jasmine petals, fresh freesia, frangipani
Base: creamy musk, sheer woods, white patchouli

Not only can they sing, they’ve also won the perfume world over with their unforgettable scent, Our Moment. Said to be the first of three perfumes to be released by 1D, the boys are off to a flying start with Our Moment taking out Best Female Fragrance at the 2013 Pure Beauty Awards. However some key professionals aren’t convinced that the combination of notes is a winner. Hey, anything Harry does is perfectly fine by us.

#3 Lady Gaga Fame EDT 50mL, $15

The most peculiar perfume on this list, it comes as no surprise that this fragrance was composed in a particularly unusual way. The kooky singer used a method called the “pull-push” technique that combines the top, middle and base notes by disregarding the pyramid structure to highlight different aspects without hierarchy or preference. The result is three main accords of dark (Belladonna), sensual (honey, saffron and apricot) and light (Tiger Orchid). Interestingly, the colour of the perfume is black, but sprays clear and becomes invisible once airborne, and is the first fragrance to ever use this technology. The concept comes from Gaga’s desire to create a perfume that referenced the allure of fame and fortune, stating that the black liquid is “like the soul of fame”. By mixing the sweet scents of the sensual accord with the bite of belladonna and the blackness, Gaga has symbolised the dark and destructive side-effects fame can have on an individual.

Yep, this is one perfume that certainly raised a few bh brows.

#2 Guess Seductive EDT 75mL, $29

Top: Bergamot, black currant, pear
Middle: jasmine, african orange flower, orris root
Base: vanille, olibanum, cashmere wood

Notice how this is the only fragrance to make it into the top ten without a celebrity name to endorse it? Seeing as a nearly whopping 50,000 bottles of the stuff were sold this year alone, we’re pretty darn impressed. With a scent enticingly sweet and charming, it’s no surprise that it managed to take out the #2 spot.

Kudos you guys, really.

#1 Beckham Intimately Women EDT 75mL, $18

Top: White flowers, bergamot, rose petals
Middle: Casablanca lily, tuberose, orange blossom
Base: Vanilla, sandalwood, musk

Well, what can we say? The Beckhams are not only sporting and fashion royalty, they can now add King and Queen of the perfume world to their resumes, too. Already featured at number six for the 50mL bottle, this fragrance is obviously a pretty popular drop. Ladies, put this one on high rotation.

We give 100+ points to the Brits for featuring an impressive three times. Way to go Posh and Becks!

Do you have any of these perfumes in your collection? Which of these would you like to try?
