Celebrity scents put to the test

Celebrity scents put to the test

I know what you’re thinking.

If it’s a scent from the likes of Justin Bieber or Taylor Swift, it’s probably just a sickly sweet juice that will appeal to the tween market and reserve no space on your dressing table. Am I right?

I know this because a lot of the time, I think just like you. We push certain celebrity scents aside thinking that, since we have nothing in common with the person plastered on the packaging, the juice wouldn’t be right for us either. But research has taught me that we shouldn’t be quite so hasty.

Celebrity scents are formulated with a lot of the same notes as any other fragrances and, at the end of the day, whether or not there’s a photo of Justin Bieber plastered over the packaging shouldn’t matter when it comes to making the purchasing decision. It should be just about the juice and how it sits on your skin, not about the celebrity behind it. So with that in mind, I went ahead and took a ‘celebrity scent blindfold test’. Four new celebrity scents were spritzed onto card and, without knowing which scent belonged to which celeb, I gave each card a sniff and wrote down exactly what I smelled.

Without naming any of the perfumes, here are the results of my test…

CELEBRITY SCENT #1: Find out the name of the mystery scent

Sweet and fresh are two words I would use to describe this juice. I can tell it would be well suited to a younger market but at the same time I wouldn’t bat an eyelid if a woman twice my age walked past me wearing it. I can smell subtle fruit notes but the scent also has sheer, musky notes that I can’t quite put my finger on. But they do seem to work with the cool, sweet notes I can smell. As it settles, I can smell a woody base note coming through, which I’m sure would be the scent that sticks around for the longest.

CELEBRITY SCENT #2: Find out the name of the mystery scent

This scent is mostly musky, with a woody undertone that makes it seem warm and envigorating. I can tell it’s something that could be worn by many people and it has sheer undertone that seem like they would develop over time throughout the day. In saying that though, the scent is still strong; it demands attention in a soft way that envelops you all over. It has a dense, sophisticated feel to it, too.

CELEBRITY SCENT #3: Find out the name of the mystery scent

Ooh! A guy’s scent! As I sniff this one, I can’t help but think that this is how men are supposed to smell. All delicious and cool and Hugo Boss-like. Yep, the scent definitely reminds me of a Hugo Boss scent my dad used to wear, even though I know it’s not. It’s heavy on the woods, with a hint of an oriental note or two, mixed with a sweetness that I can’t quite decipher. It’s not too sweet either, just sweet enough. It has the freshness of Lynx deodorants (my kryptonite as a teen) and makes you want to cuddle up to whoever is wearing it.

CELEBRITY SCENT #4: Find out the name of the mystery scent

Right away I’m hit with sweet and musky notes all wrapped into one. The light notes smell like lollies – but not in a childish way; more in a delicious way that I could tell would really warm me up in the winter months. Kind of like musk sticks, I guess. As it dries it gets deeper and warmer still. I can tell this one would be popular with the boys because it smells so feminine, with fruity bits to it, too. It’s definitely a pretty scent that would make you feel really feminine when wearing it. I would definitely wear this to a party or when I really wanted to stay on a guy’s mind.
