Red eyes

Can anyone help me by telling me what would cause someone to always have red eyes because mine have been like this for some years now and no matter how much or little rest I get, they are always red.

Thank you

Might be your mascara or eye makeup .. Try going a few days without . also make sure to update these products super regularly and NEVER SHARE

I would suggest the most accurate diagnosis would be given by an eye specialist or even an iridologist. Don’t diagnose yourself or try too many over the counter products if you don’t know the real cause.

My optometrist identified an allergy to a plant in my garden. After I took it
    out my eyes were fine.

I also have dry eyes as well , due to my glucauma medication . You might have to try a few different one to see which works best for you. For best results you have to use it at least 3-4 times a day. My optometrist told me that if we are thirsty we drink water and it’s the same with our eyes . ,Every time my eyes feel itchy , dry or red , I use my drops. Iam using blink at the moment. Hope this helps.

    Bumping this thread!
currently suffering dry,red veined eyes for over 2 months now, so I’ve been wearing glasses (usually i wear contact lenses-for years and have never happen before). Only after I’ve moved working to docklands that I’ve started getting red, dry, sometimes itchy eyes.

Went to see a gp,he thought it was conjunctivitis, and prescribed me a conjunctivitis eye drop, made my eyes even more dry and worse. Went to get a referral to eye and ear hospital, and doc finally told me,it was just dry eyes, and prescribed me refresh eye drops. Been using it for abt another month now,and its dedefinitely alot better, but i think they’re still dry,and still not able to use my contact lenses full time.

He did mentioned to me that its better i see optometrist to see if eyes are still dry..:(.i wonder if there’s anything else i can do to make my eyes better, faster…

Optom student here and I can’t help being interested in this. You should definitely see an optometrist first if you’re still concerned about your red/dry/itchy eyes. A GP may not necessarily have the right equipment to properly diagnose what you have but we do 🙂

Personally, I find that Systane Balance eye drops work better than Refresh (I have dry eyes too although not due to contact lens wear) and it’s easily available at the chemist.

I have them due to dry eyes, it’s a lot to do with being in front of a computer for work all day in an airconditioned environment. I ended up going to see an eye specialist. I had to put gel eye drops in every 3 hours for weeks until now I only put them in a couple of times a day. I use Viscotears, you can get them from the chemist. There are also ointment based ones you can get for the chemist (can’t remember the name because it changed recently), really helps for overnight to replenish them.

Hi VivaliciousChic. I had a similar issue with dry eyes. When I saw my Optometrist he advised that I should use Systane Ultra Lubricant Eye Drops. I used them for about a month and my eyes were no longer dry. They’re on sale for $7.99 at Chemist Warehouse. Normally it costs about $10 for the drops.

Go and see an optomotrist. You may be suffering from dry eyes. I always had red eyes too and thought it was eye strain. Went and got my eyes tested and it was just dry eye. My eyes dont lubricate themselves properly. Optomotrist said use Systane drops several times a day. This has helped me greatly. But dont just buy eyedrops, go see optomotrist cos it may be something else that needs treatment

oh sorry i though you where talking about red eyes in photos lol my bad

Initially I also thought something like it. I am sorry. Consult allergy specialist. You may have allergy of any food or something else. By avoiding it, you can get read of it.

It could be so many things, allergies, dry eyes, environment, stuff like that. They sell eye drops at the pharmacy the brand that was recommended to me by my optometrist was systane ultra lubricating eye drops 3 times a day. Give it a try otherwise go to an optometrist and see what he thinks.
