I asked my optometrist and he says he doubts this is true. If course a good balanced diet (including Carrots) is a smart all round move,

Carrots and Bits are really amazing for our eyes and entire body. Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, a carotenoid pigment which is an essential precursor for vitamin A. Deficiencies in vitamin A are the leading causes of blindness in the developing world, so yes carrots make your vision better 🙂

Just reading through some forum topics and found this ( old) one. Carrots are a rich source of beta carotene which the body will convert to Vitamin A. Vitamin A is important for healthy skin. It is said that if you eat carrots with a little fat, like a good oil or butter, then the Vitamin A gets absorbed more effectively by the body. Carrots also contain some Vitamin C, vitamin B8, Vitamin K, folate, pantothenic acid, potassium, iron, copper, and manganese. By the way, Vitamin A is transformed in the retina, to rhodopsin, which is a purple pigment necessary for night vision.

Apparently, slightly cooked carrots provide more beta carotene than raw ones.

I don’t think that carrots alone will make your vision better, important is a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables that have not been contaminated by pesticides.

Whichever way you eat your carrots, they are certainly a healthier alternative to nibbling on a chocolate bar.

I have a really funny story about this.
My sister was about 11 and I told her that carrots help you see in the dark better. ABout 20 minutes later her and my young cousin were walking around with carrots in their hand pointing them at things, I asked “what are you two doing?” and her reply was “you told me they would make us see better in the dark!”
I cracked up, and told her you need to eat them, not pretend they are torches!
My goodness, it was the funniest thing!

Anyways in answer to the original question, I believe they are good for eye health.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I did a literal laugh out loud at this!

You should have seen in misfortune8 it was the funniest thing!
I mean she had a good point, I didn’t actually state how they would help her see! Hahaha!

When we leave the house to go to work or go out, we always give our dogs a carrot each, and we have since they were puppies. They love it, and see it as a treat. They must have amazing eyesight!
Although I dont mind carrots, I wish I saw it as a substitute treat to chocolate 😉

Never heard of this as a treat for dogs! – one of my rabbits (Phrederic) loves them, but the other (Kiya) doesnt!
Will have to try this on our dog!

Yeah, our labradors absolutely love then, but as I said, we have also done it since they were puppies. they just love chewing away at them, holding them between their paws. The vet thinks its great too, and means that they are both lean and healthy – which labs, who everybody knows love food and thinks with their tummies, often are not, but rather often are prone to be a bit chubby!
But they also LOVE fruit….they never beg for food when we eat – except for when they see me eat fruit….apples, bananas, mango, strawberries, you name it, they want it. Bag of chips, bisquits etc, and they couldnt care!
Both hubby and I eat an apple/pear driving home from work every day, and the dogs cant wait to check out the cars to see if there is an apple core for them…they get so dissappointed if there isnt. They love it, and again, the vet is saying that its great and that its very healthy for them.

you can use them mixed in your dogs food, because it makes them feel fuller for longer… just a small amount, if he/she has a weight problem, i think it works. a friend of mine does this 🙂
