I bought a really nice pair of black dress shorts from zara when i was in melbourne in november… they are one of my favourite pairs of shorts because they are not to short and not too long. I paid $40 for them and although thats cheap… it wasnt until i got home that i realised that all the pockets are fake… that is my number one pet peeve… so definately overpriced for what you actually get.

I have had a look at the Melbourne store a few times, but not yet bought anything. I do actually find that their clothes is quite well priced, and I do like some of their simple designs. Hubby got a pair of jeans, and he’s loving them!!
There will be a new Zara store opening in Chadstone soon (the old Esprit store, which goes over two levels!) -

I went to the store in Sydney at the beginning of this year and I reckon it’s overpriced for the clothing styles it offers. Nothing really caught my eye.

I also went to the Melbourne store some time ago. I was expecting to see some high quality clothing as there was so much hype and news coverage leading to the opening. I was thoroughly disappointed with the clothing range – they were pretty basic and average styles/pieces. Nothing to go crazy about in my opinion and probably won’t be going back.

I’ve been to Topshop & Zara in Europe, Asia & North America and I have to tell you Australia doesn’t even come close to the choices you get in those countries. Also, I find it really funny that they have security standing in the doorway of the Zara Sydney store. I’m sorry Zara is just another middle class store everywhere else but here in Aus they make it seem like you’re walking into some expensive clothing store which it clearly isn’t LOL. I love the Zara shops in other countries but I won’t waste my time again going to the one here. It’s amazing how the Australian retail industry think the Australian consumers are dumb which we’re clearly not hence the reason why we spend our Aus dollars overseas.

I went to Zara and wasn’t particularly blown away by their range and when TopShop also opened in Melbourne the prices weren’t really different and their range was pretty average too.
The bonus is both of these shops I believe are supposed to have a high turnover of clothing. I’m yet to buy anything from either but I’m hopeful.
Regardless, we aren’t fashion-forward as Europe. They’re leagues ahead of us.

We need H&M and Zara in all the shopping malls, not just the city centre. Australia needs quality and affordable fashion, and for these big brands it makes sense because the Aussie dollar is so high and our seasons are opposite to Asia/Europe/US, so they can offload the previous seasons left over stock down here.
