Wanting to purchase a new Sony mp3 player

Hey girls.
My sisters old mp3 player is now dying so we are on the look out to purchase a new 16Gb one for her. As it is we both have old 8Gb (she has a Aldi branded mp3 player whilst I have an Nano).
Wanting to step away from the new and tiny Nano we have been looking at the Sony and are interested in purchasing the Sony but there is one main problem; we prefer to purchase in store and we don’t know what shops stock Sony mp3 players. We have search the main stores in our area online catalogues but we cannot find any stores that stock Sony mp3 players.
Does anyone else know what stores we should be looking at?
Have checked the online catalogues of JB Hi Fi, Myer, Target, Big W, DavidJones, KMart, Harvey Norman, Dick Smith, Officeworks and some others and I will be physically visiting some of these stores in the next couple of weeks to see if they have more instore than online, I am just hoping that we can narrow down the search faster if anyone else has seen the Sony mp3 players instore.
More specifically we are looking for the NWZ-E455/B or the NWZ-S755/B.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help us narrow down the in store shops we should be looking at 🙂

    Thanks for the feedback girls!
Sorry I forgot to mention that I am located in the Southern suburbs of Melbourne (~45min South of the CBD).
We were thinking about the Sony store but being in Chapel St makes it a little out of our way if we end up having issues with it which can easily be solved by a swap of items (which I find most major retailers are happy to do).
I’ve now checked out an Officeworks on Springvale road but they were so small they didn’t stock any mp3 players at all 🙁 might have to try a larger store in the future
Last night I found out that a Harvey Norman store not too far from us is having a closing down sale ending this weekend but I am not hopeful that they would have anything decent since it is a HN sale.
This weekend we’ll also be checking out JB Hi Fi, Myer, David Jones and Dick Smith (but our DSmith is tiny:( ).

About the sound file format. I am now a little confused does the Sony convert mp3 to ATRAC when you load them on or not?
Because I always have a habit of going back to my ipod and opening up the protected files to back up my mp3’s, sure the titles of the files are a jumble of letters but they are still in mp3 format and the titles in the files are unchanged.

The Sony’s do not use ATRAC anymore. They are a drag and drop option for MP3’s. You do not have to use any software – just use Windows media player. You will have to make sure that your music has been saved as an MP3 and not encoded in Apples AAC.

Thanks, was getting a little concerned.

Had a look at the website you posted Katek and I think you are located in SA which is no good for me, thanks anyway.

There are Sony Centres (Sony stores) in most major capital cities. I went to the one in Chapel Street in Melbourne last year to buy some headphones and the customer service was great.

I can totally agree with you they had very great customer service even if I was just buying a blue tooth head set!

In regards to not using ATRAC, the modern Sony MP3 players don’t even support this format. They’re great quality, my last Sony mp3 player lasted me 3 – 4 years with no troubles. They’re a fantastic alternative to Ipods and I find that they’re more user friendly too.

I haggled with a guy at Sony Centre and got a 8gb MP3 player (the NWZS544P, about 8 months ago) for $99, catch was that it was purple and they had too many of them, all other colours were $200.

They’re stocked at all major department stores (JB Hi Fi, Dick Smith, etc) but for the best deal, drop into your local Sony Centre like I did (if you choose not to shop online).

    for my 2 cents opinions-
steering away from ipods is fine, but sony devices, while having good builds and quality, also have had issues of making brand specific formats in digital age (like ATRAC or something, instead of mp3, in the past. so they were less cross-compatible etc)

for the places to go – dick smith or harvery norman, places liek that usually never have ppl in stores who know as much abou the items, and also never have as low a price.
JB hifi are my fave plus using cash can help for lower, same with the Good Guys.

Where are you located? I am a seller of Sony products so could help you either in store or via our website.

    really?
    Now *I* am interested!
i was never the biggest fan of sony hand held / music players but i LOVE my Bravia TV and also always liked sony A/V home thatre stuff.. i even used to read pulse mag! (thanks to some male friends)

Are u a gateway to getting good deals on thewider sony catalog of items? :):)

Absolutely! I have been selling Sony for approximately 16 years and our family had a Sony only store for 39 years until June last year. I now work for a company that can send Australia wide. Check out our website at http://www.proAVsolutions.com.au.

Generally we can access all of the items on Sony Australia’s website.
