The dreaded cold

I just cought some sort of virus from work and have a really sore dry throat, it feels like a big lump in my throat. I also have a sore neck and headache. Plus I can’t sleep.

Remedies to make any of this better?
I had honey and lemon drink and panadols, that’s about it.

🙁

Thank you so much ladies xioxoxo You are so caring 🙂 I’ve been trying to study while sick which is probably not a good idea. I think I should have got rest from the start. I guess I just feel guilty being in bed and not doing anything.

Yesterday I got a lot of bloody green sputum out (sorry that is gross I know!) and today I feel a lot better because it cleared up my chest and nose quite a bit.

I am still wheezing though and getting chest pains so I listened to Mother Hen 😉 and went to the doctors. He said that along with the bronchitis I have viral asthma and offered me a prescription for a puffer but I decided against it as puffers have side effects on their own such as a high heart rate and that jittery feeling. He said people who get eczema and hay fever are more prone to getting viral asthma.

So I think I will invest in a really good vaporiser so if this asthma occurs again in the future I will have some relief.
Also if this asthma doesn’t go away within a couple of weeks then I’m going back to the doctor. I hope to shake it off though 🙂

For those of you who are feeling sick, I hope you are feeling better soon. I know that if I get sick and don’t give myself time to rest and get over it fully then I tend to pick up everything that is going around – and at a primary school that can be a LOT of things. My system just seems to get too weak to fight things off. So listen to all of this great advice and make sure that you rest and hopefully have lots of people to pamper you so that you can get back to feeling 100%.
I was reading in the news that there seems to be an alarming rate of measles cases in the eastern states at the moment. I don’t know if that is the same over here in WA, but I hope that none of us end up getting that. I’m pretty sure I’ve been immunized, but it would have been when I was little, so may have to check with Mum. Does anyone know if you need to have a booster for that as an adult?

Anyway, take care of yourselves and get better soon.

I had tonsillitis and a middle ear infection at the same time last week. Bloody cough is still here and my ears are inflamed. I took a course of ABs for the ears but I’m pretty sure they’re not fully cured yet and will have my doc check them on Friday. I also have to study for my HSC – blah!

Does anyone have any good solutions for a cough? I coughed so much last night that my throat is really sore now. 🙁 I’m drinking white tea with a teaspoon of honey in it and drinking plenty of water.

Can’t even think how ghastly it must be to be feeling so unwell AND studying for the HSC AliceRoared – hope you’re a lot better very soon. I found Duro-Tuss DRY cough lozenges helped and there is a Bioglan one too. If it’s NOT a dry cough Duro-Tuss have a chesty one. Hope you’re better soon.

Adding my healing hugs to those Kats sent you, BM – you really sound as though you’ve got one of the really nasty bugs which seem to be very prevelant at present.

Thanks for your lovely words recently. I REALLY THINK YOU NEED TO GO TO THE DRS. – OK, Mother Hen is at it again and from one who hates going to the Dr. it does seem to be something that isn’t going to go away on its own. See if you can get a different antibiotic from the one that made you feel so yuk.

Do take care and if good wishes mean anything you’ll be better very soon.

Aww bm hon, you sound like you’ve scored a really bad dose. The fever isn’t good though – I used to get bronchitis every year when I lived in Melbourne and I dreaded the pain and not being able to breathe (plus getting a penicillin jab in my tush). I understand why you’re avoiding the doctor, but I hope you get some medical advice if your situation doesn’t change in the next 48 hours. Healing hugs to you hon ♥

So last night I drenched the bed in sweat. My usual healthy oral temp is 36.5 but it went up to 37.4. Then I took two panadol and it went up to 37.6 then back down to 37.4. Right now it’s 37.3. Nothing dangerously high though which is good 🙂

I’ve been taking the garlic tablets, echinacea & c tablets, ginger and lemon tea, lemon and honey hot drinks and panadol for all the aches and pains and sore throat. Plus Diflam anti-inflammatory lozenges to numb my throat a bit and vicks on my chest at night. The panadol has been my savior because it stops me feeling like absolute death.

Last time I had bronchitis the doctor prescribed me antibiotics which made me feel worse due to the side effects. I think what I had was viral and hadn’t turned into a secondary infection so there was no point taking the antibiotics anyway. That is why I’ve been avoiding the doctor in case they prescribe me antibiotics. I will just stick this out myself and if it turns into over 2-3 weeks of illness then I’ll know it’s a possible secondary infection.

Bit of an old wives tale, but feels nice…..rub Vicks on your feet, put socks on and go to bed. Strange but it does seem to make you feel better, and your feet feel nice and soft too.

I take a herbal supplement everyday. It’s called ‘Ki Immune Defence’. You get it from health food shops or chemists. I take one everyday, and up the dose if people around me are germy. I rarely, if ever get colds.

Hey Alice, I’m sorry to hear all your health problems. It really is a nightmare! Codeine is a great cough suppressant. I use panadeine which is over the counter at the chemist. It’s a mix of panadol and codeine as you can’t buy codeine on it’s own. One tablet would be enough for that use.

OR if you prefer not to use tablets then perhaps a cough lolly before bed. Strepsils have a numbing one which makes it so you cant feel the scratchy and tickly feeling in the throat therefore you may cough less. The plain antibacterial ones are not as good for this.

    Hope this helps 🙂
