the 21st where no-one came!

Hey everyone!
This will sound a bit weird, but here goes. I turn 21 in November (yay!) and am thinking of having a 21st. Thing is, I love The Beatles and Elvis and pretty much most music from the 50s, 60s and onwards. So, I would LOVE to have a 50s rock’n’roll theme – I figure it’s my birthday, I should indulge myself, right? But here’s the thing – I have some friends who are not at all receptive to music that was made before the 80s. I have this horrible feeling that no-one would come, because they’d think I’d make them listen to horrible music all night!! Which really isn’t true, I was going to play rock’n’roll music from every decade. However it would also be a costumed party, so everyone would look like ‘Grease’ extras, only better 😀
so I’m just worried I’ll go to all the trouble of getting a function room, decorating, painstakingly making the best rock’n’roll playlist ever – and some people won’t come because of their silly prejudice against anything that was created before they were.
Shall I just go ahead anyway, and enjoy my night?
Thanks for listening to (or reading haha) my ramble 🙂 xoxo

Do what you want Lani18! It’s your 21st which makes it even more special. If these girls don’t show up, they aren’t worthy of your time.

I hope you go ahead with your party 🙂 Good luck with the planning! I haven’t even thought about my 21st party and it’s before yours hehe eeeep!

aww you guys are so great 🙂 I was going to go all out with the theme, I was going to go through second-hand shops to find posters/records etc and decorate the function room with them… And costume-wise, it is a pretty fun theme 🙂 You’re all so supportive! 😀

I think your party sounds awesome! dont worry about the music so much! once they have all had a drink or two people will get up and dance to just about anything haha! seriously tho-at parties its pretty impossible that music choices are going to suit everyone there anyway! no matter what music you are into! go for it! it sounds great!

Are these people actually your friends if they don’t come to your 21st due to music choice???? I’ve been to all sorts of parties, weddings and various occasions that were at places I didn’t like, or served food I didnt like…. had shocking music. It doesn’t matter my opionion it wasn’t my party I was just a guest and honoured to be invited to the particular occasion.
Your idea sounds soooo great! Fun and different! I’m envionining the girls in full swing skirts and the guys dressed like james dean right now 🙂

    I’d love to come hahaha!!!

Do as you like and don’t essentially try to change yourself to please others.

Like everyone’s been saying, if they were true friends, they’d come regardless of whether it’s a themed party that they’re not familiar/comfortable with. Definitely just go out and enjoy YOUR night!

Like Hooha said, if you’re feeling uncertain, maybe extend a lil on the theme. Instead of it being specifically 50s rocknroll oriented, your guests could dress up as anything inspired by that era. Still, up to you though 🙂

I’m going to confess here… a friend just had an 18th which was a costumed Disney party. I seriously don’t watch Disney movies so I was like ‘What do I dress up as!!!’ Although I didn’t end up going as anything, I still went… and felt out of place haahha

It’s quite normal to get nervous when planning a big party and wonder whether people will turn up. You’re just having typical pre-party nerves! The truth is, your true friends will want to come, whatever the theme is, whatever you do.

The theme you have is great and you will be able to have a lot of fun with it. Be creative with the invitations and make it sound like fun and everyone will be excited to come. Be positive and enthusiastic, and this will rub off on everyone else. Once people start talking about their costumes, they won’t be able to wait for your 21st!

Lani18, I am sure that your friends would just think it was a fun theme. Maybe everyone could dress from their favourite decade? I really think they would just be happy to celebrate the occasion with you and have a good time. 🙂

Do what you want! They can deal with it! If they are real friends they will come 🙂

I just thought of something else that might make you feel better about your wishes.

I wanted to have my 21st on the actual day of my birthday which fell on a Monday. As you can imagine I thought that very few people would come to a party on a Monday night. Well, I was wrong. Everyone turned up, we had a great time and rocked on till 2.00am. So, don’t underestimate your friends, Lani. xo
