As the others have said above, you need to give someone the BSB (which must be 6 digits, and any dashes or spaces should be left out) and account number. For cross-checking reasons, you should also tell them the name of the account holder as it appears on the account as they need that too.

When it comes to your banking and finance matters, there’s no such thing as a stupid question, in fact the more questions you ask, the less likely you are to get ripped off. Yes you give your BSB and account number. DO NOT give your secret code/pin to the ATM. yes, people have done that.

So not a silly question, banking can get confusing and the last thing you want is for the money to end up in someone elses account by mistake! General rule of thumb is tell the person which bank you are with eg, Commonwealth bank (if they deposit it through the same bank eg.deposit at commonwealth to go into a commonwealth account it then clears instantly compared to if they put it through some other financial institutions) I also give my name that is on the account as well as BSB and account number, then your all set! Looks like you’ve got plenty of advice here already so happy banking 🙂

Sure of it beautygeek, I don’t have anyone to give my account details to who is willing to transfer a large sum in just for my own personal shopping pleasure, LOL.

Not silly at all! It is always so confusing when starting or opening something. There are always so many numbers, usernames, passwords you need to remember. So tiresome! But yes, Linga is right. BSB and account number and sometimes account name (which is usually your name). Good luck! I wouldn’t mind someone depositing money into mine 😀

    You’re not stupid for asking!
BSB and Account number is all you need to give them if they are in this country International transfers are quite a bit more in depth and I would ask your bank what is required for an international transfer… I hope this helps 🙂
