Elmo – I`ve never bought Alchemy myself, but I`ve always thought it was slightly cheaper…?
Kay n Jay – It depends on your hair, your budget, your preferences etc, but two brands that I`ve found really good are Redken and Alchemy. Redken is salon quality, so it can be fairly expensive. Alchemy is more natural/organic, but not sure of the details. Hope this helps, a little bit at least.

So what is a recommended brand to use that is actually good for hair?

  • 16 yrs, 1 mth ago

Pantene was horrible for my hair and it also made my scalp really itchy, it may just be me though.

BO – how do the prices of alchemy compare to redken/loreal or something? The same?

The only ever product that I liked in the Pantene range was their clarifying shampoo. This is probably a big no no when it comes to the amount of foaming agents in it but it`s always worked great on my hair. I then followed with a salon quality conditioner like one from Redken, L`oreal or Matrix. I`ve used the Matrix Smooth and Sleek hair mask which is pretty good. ATM I`m using the Alchemy range of shampoos and conditioners which have been amazing on my hair. They don`t contain any silcones, sulphates, parabens or any other nasties. I love their wheat and macadamia conditioner 🙂

Both hubby and I don`t like Pantene, it made our head itch. Can`t understand the hype as one of the most popular things in OZ… In our household we have two words to describe Pantene: POO shampoo. 🙂

Fifi I`ve used matrix smooth and sleek and matrix biolage – I did like them, but then I started full time work in air con and didn`t find them moisturising enough. I now use Loreal Professional – shine blonde shampoo and absolut repair conditioner. They have a coloured hair range too. Redken is also really good.

Best advice is to go to hairhouse warehouse – ask for help if you want, or just have a browse – pretty much anything you buy in there will be good! De Lorenzo is also another great brand. Try it out – then you can buy products like Loreal and Kerastase on strawberrynet for much cheaper (and bigger containers!). Good luck – let us know how you go!
