Opinions on makeup courses?
I was googling for courses on applying prosthetic makeup today and stumbled upon this course, which is offered in both Newcasle and Sydney and wondered whether anybody knows about the place. Also, does the price look reasonable?

Lol Alice, sounds like a niche market I could explore in my makeup artist work. I actually really love special effects makeup, would love to do more of this one day. I am interested in fake tattoos especially, I think there would be a great opportunity for art there. My main problem with the bullet holes was always making the latex too thick. It would take some practise to get used to working with it I think. 🙂

Hi Alice,
The course costs look quite reasonable to me, on par with other providers.
They are recognized qualifications.
I was looking at some courses and found a diploma run in my area for $9725 + 3000 in materials here is the link for interest

Hopefully someone has studied there or knows someone whom has.
Good Luck.I actually know someone who studied there, she done my makeup at a makeup counter. She was orange. Her mascara was clumpy. Her blush was over the top. She didn’t even match up my foundation to the correct shade.

I don’t even bother with makeup courses anymore I’ve been to several different ones and they pretty much told me to do everything not to do! They told me to curl my eyelashes after mascara and one of them there was this blush palette and we all had to stick our fingers in it to get the product out, how un-hygienic!

I’m in Brisbane so I cant’t comment on the school, but I agree the price looks reasonable. Most Diplomas are around that much, and to be honest the makeup and hairstyling kits are quite reasonably priced from what I’ve seen.

Their web site is confusing because the Diploma is listed under the Newcastle menu, but the timetable doesn’t list times for it in Newcastle. I’ve left a question on their Facebook page to ask about it. If I don’t get a response within a few days, I’ll email them.
I know people who go to the Hellfire Club in Sydney, who would love the bullet holes, bruises, fake tattoos, etc. 🙂

Alice, so far I have only heard of prosthetic makeup courses being run in major capital cities. I did a two night basic course years ago at Backstage Makeup but am not sure if they still exist. They are in Melbourne but maybe they have a website for comparison. My bullet holes were terrible but my bruises were pretty good. Probably not the look you are going for though. 🙂

Thanks Hooha and PP.
I misread the web site. It doesn’t look like they offer the Diploma in Newcastle, only cert IV, which doesn’t cover the stuff that I’m interested in. 🙁

Hi Alice, I think the price looks pretty steep but then it is a long course. Have you checked TAFE colleges near you? Sometimes they are pretty reasonable but then they may not be as specialist as you want. As I am in Victoria I can’t comment on the actual course itself. I think the one I did worked out to be about $400 for six weeks but it was just basic makeup. My advanced course again focussed more on bridal and glamour looks so it is a bit hard to compare. This is probably fairly useless info but I thought it might give you some idea. Hopefully someone in here has actually done this course. It sounds really interesting. 🙂
