Never bought perfume before

I have never bought perfume before but I have used body sprays/scented body wash etc. I think it’s about time I found a perfume to be my ‘signature scent’. I don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars but I would like something nice. Any advice?

My god you have not been living girl! Everyone needs a signature scent, but it does not necessarily have to cost the earth. My all time fave is Elizabeth Arden- Arden Beauty and you can get that for about $20. So don`t judge its merits based on the pricetag..

If its your first perfume I would suggest you find something that is highly available at a low cost. Get a small 30ml bottle that you can keep in your handbag. I am currently using `Life` By Esprit as my everyday perfume because it is cheap without smelling it and the smell is really fresh and summery. I have Armani Code as my night time/going out perfume but perhaps you should leave the night time one until you have found something that may cost alot but you fall in love with.
The night time one can cost more than the everyday one and be in a bigger bottle because it will last a long time and will make you feel awesome when you`re going out…
    Hope I helped.

I`ve never bought perfume either…the perfumes I`ve ever gotten were given to me as gifts…I`m looking forward to buy my own perfume because I`m the one who chooses the fragrance that I believe would suit me the best!! Go and look at perfume samples at Myer and David Jones…and even Perfume Connection or Perfume Empire….but usually the ones at Myer and David Jones are easier for you to spray at pieces of paper.

Have fun deciding and good luck! There`s such a massive range of perfumes on sale it`s hard to find the right one immediately!!! But it`s still fun!!

    Lead & Feather,

Do some desktop research first into what perfumes you might like. There are a few good websites that let you choose scents that you like and then they list the perfumes that include them – eg if you like vanilla type scents that also have amber & mint – one good site for this is Fragrantica:http://www.fragrantica.com. Get a little list together & then go to a Dept store & smell the perfumes on cards. Smell the coffee beans provided to clear your nose between each scent.

Once you have smelt the perfumes on your list, choose TWO that you like best and spray one on each wrist. Then go home or continue your day and keep smelling the perfumes now and then. As perfumes change on your skin you wont know what they`re like until you wear them. Try not to impulse buy as you might end up giving the perfume away if you don`t like it.

Once you`ve found a perfume you like, buy it! I think online prices are much better – do your homework and only buy from reputable stores. I myself never buy from OS online stores but that`s just me. Check Dept stores for specials now and again (they can be rare on designer perfumes).

    Have fun & good luck!
