Nail crisis

I have always had terrible nails. They are thin, weak and tear. As a nurse, they are constantly being washed and exposed to harsher hand cleaners.
I have tried many different products over the years, both topical and oral.
But I have given up in the past few years blaming poor genes.
Does anyone know of a new wonder product that might offer me some hope??

Belle – u will be ok.
its only the time that thigns take that is the issue.
so if u have a 1st need to get things ok by 2wks, it depends – how long re the rest of ur nails, and how much broke off?

2weks u might grow only 2-3mm at the most, so if u hav much longer nails u cant get the length but also, depending on ur usual looks and styles, BEYOND the bday, if u want ongoing much lnoger nails, filing them all down or back a long way might not be so good coz u lost a time of effort.
u can try to have them filed back just a lil, and see how much new growth u get on the broken one.. but can u give more info about ur lengths and look, or a photo, so best help can be offered?
the option of putting a fakie on can be ok if its odone neatloy, but dont do it at the expense of covering ur nails in any unhealthy glues if ur usually an only natural nails person.
thats how i am. keep it all real id say.

this wont help for the immediate but u cancheck out the thread about complete nails care in the same forum setion, for more big picture and ongoing nails help. u sound lie ur very into ur nails.. so trust me – i DO understand 🙂
    xx

:'( HELP! My nail broke! I can’t believe it! I have got such super strong nails – they’ve never broken before! I didnt’ even realise there was a tear in my nail and it got caught on my blanket and it ripped right off! Now I’m wondering what on earth I should do – should I file all my nails super short to match, or cover the broken nail up with a band-aid, or should I just have one odd nail? 🙁 How long is it going to take to get them french-worthy? Even just a tiny white tip…. Please say less that two weeks – I want them pretty for my birthday!! AHHH!! I’M HAVING A BREAKDOWN!!

Okay, firstly calm down, it’ll grow back. When this happens to me I either file all my nails short to the same length or glue a fake nail onto the broken one and file it so it doesn’t look as obviously fake. If you do go the ‘fake nail’ route it’s better to paint your nails a single colour opposed to french tips as the fake nail isn’t as obvious. Hope this helps, good luck 🙂

I’ve never had a problem with weak nails. Mine are that strong that if I do bend them, they just either bend back to normal or snap cleanly and completely. But really they are rock hard. I do get problems with the tops of the nails right at the tips flaking at times, especially when I have nail polish on, that’s when it seem to happen most. I think it’s just common sense looking after your nails and be careful what hardeners you do use as some of the ingredients are too harsh for the nails and the cuticles.

    HI ILF 🙂
IF you have good routine care for ur nails ( or they jsut always turned up strong ? im kind of he same , lucky genetics there) maybe u can add some help and ideas to the COMPLETE NAIL CARE thread i had begun? Im working to keep updating more of my theory and how i do my own nails on there.

Its VERY true htat good nail care is al ot of common sense, and beyond the thins we apply topical or oral/diet , how we move and consdier protecting them is also a big part and that falls under common sense thinking, combined with eventual ‘adaptation’ to take into acct not risking nails on silly things as we move 😛

I am in the same boat darl, I have tried it all and there is no miracle treatment that I have discovered, or if there is I am yet to find it. I have tried different products to apparently harden my nails that range from cheap to the most expensive like OPI etc but they all failed miserably. I ended up talking to a nail consultant last year and gave her my story, she said the big problem with those nail hardeners is they contain extremely drying chemicals which can make sensitive nails even more brittle and peeling. She suggested avoiding them and focusing on purely hydration, hand and nail creams, oil treatments and of course cuticle oil. And maybe something like Nail Defense, a protein treatment or a Calcium Shield (Both Orly) but have been trying these for sometime and they are honestly not doing that much either. I am seriously beginning to think that I am destined to have these crap nails for life, haha. I use to take those hair, nail and skin vitamins too, but after about 6 months I wasnt’ seeing any improvement so I couldn’t justify the expense with no results. I have just recently started taking Iron tablets and Multivitamins though, as I was iron deficient and am hoping these might help with the nails a bit as well, coz I read that peeling, brittle nails is also a symptom of being iron deficient. Otherwise I too get slack with it all, especially when you have worked so hard and never seem to get anywhere. For now I am just keeping an eye on the lovely Natrissara’s nail care thread from which I hope to pick up a few new tips to try. Good luck darl, and please be sure to report back if you do find that miracle we so desperately need, hehe 🙂

MEl im sosorry for not replying more directly to your psots about nails help – i did just put huge more info into the thread..
butyour past issue is something we can surpas and get good rsults just using the products i list.
what you wrote of some systems of hardneers etc is true, its not for all. but the rest is going to help al ot.
and dont give up on supplments – certain ones WILL help, im goingto list all that Vsoon.
take care, your posts are always worth their weight in gold.

HI Alex – ur certainly working hard on day 1 at BH to reack up posts and to give ur ideas 🙂
the sally hansen range has ups and downs – reliable products but they also contain a lot of hash chemicals too.
the item ur tasking – is silicaplex the brand or the product name?
silica containing supplements ara big help for nails and i endorse them myself. if u love nails work then u can check out the threads id been working on in the hands/feet section – a lot of info going up there.

Nice to have u on board. If you want to let other BH beauties here know about u – there are threads in the ‘anything other’ section about ur real look, ur family/self background, and where ur ID name comes from 🙂 its things we mostly hae enjoyed adding here to share. U might have to dig out some of the threads tho, since new things pile in daily.

Sally Hansen ‘hard as nails’ keeps mine from splitting, and i also take silicaplex daily (hair skin and nails supplement)
if you’ve tried all the products out there to no avail it may be possible that you have psoriasis, i know some people who had constant nail trouble but none more associated symptoms.

    Hi 🙂
its the product name (silicaplex 5000 plus), the brand is nutralife, i originally started taking it to help my hair grow long again, but my nails are looking better than ever.
    Thanks 🙂 i will
