Mineral foundation VS normal foundation.. Does it really matter?

Hi lovelies!!
So me and my friend had a huge argument over mineral foundation VS normal foundation and were just discussing (yelling across the table…LOL) the pro’s and con’s and what not!!

I would love to heard what you guys think of it and is it a gimmick and a marketing scheme?

If you also use Mineral foundation, what are some brands that have Liquid mineral foundation and is good for dry skin and has a medium to heavy coverage!?

Thats one mouth full of an ask but you beauties are all so intelligent with knowledge about beauty 🙂
(im sorry if there is already a thread:( )

No it doesn’t matter they contain most of the ingredients normal foundations contain, and mineral makeup never works for me and irritates me, probably because of the high concentrates of pore clogging ingredients…

I thought that was one of the benefits of mineral makeup, that it’s not supposed to clog your pores? My skin is way less congested when I use minerals, and I heard that some contain ‘drawing’ properties, which are ultimately supposed to benefit your skin. I’ve never tried the liquid variety, but I think they would contain less minerals and more of the usual foundation ingredients. I’m still a fan of I.D because of the way it looks on my skin, but I know there are a few irritants in their formulas.

That’s what I thought to, but I think that is what a lot of them lead you to believe. I have never had luck with mineral makeup, and no matter what one I try it looks horrible on me. I just do not see the point on paying 50-100 dollars for a mineral set if they contain about half the same ingredients as my normal foundation, if it worked for me I probably wouldn’t mind to much but it doesn’t 🙁

You can never quite trust what some companies put in their makeup, but some are definitely better than others. I don’t think all mineral brands are equal as some look horrible and others are amazing. I’m willing to put up with a few things here and there with my mineral foundations as they look and feel a million times better than other foundations I’ve tried. It’s a shame they don’t work for you, but I guess it’s different for everyone.

They have an excellent colour selection. I’m fair I think.

I have both of mine in fairly light, and the strange thing is my matte shade is a bit darker – but both are good on my skin.

I saw an I.D pack in myer, but I didn’t see the separate foundations. I bought mine online at http://www.skincarestore.com.au, but they should also sell them at some salons.

I’ve tried a few different mineral foundations, but the ones I found the best are Jane Iredale and Youngblood. Youngblood was a great coverage, and didn’t make me go too shiny by the end of the day. I’ve tried various others including GloMinerals, Maybelline and Rimmel but none of them stacked up to Jane Iredale or Youngblood. Unfortunately, they’re a bit more exxy. I haven’t used either for a few years but from memory they’re above the $50 mark each. One thing I found with mineral makeup (particularly the powder) was that in photos, wherever the flash bounced off my face, i’d look bright white! The Mica in the mineral makeup reflects quite badly, especially in the Maybelline and GloMinerals. Didn’t find it so bad with Youngblood though. Good luck in your search 🙂

A good mineral powder with heavy coverage is I.D bareminerals foundation. It does have a slight sheen to it though, which I don’t mind too much and because it has pretty good coverage you don’t have to use too much of it. You can also use it to conceal redness, but not under the eyes.

I find I.D bareminerals matte is more of a medium coverage, and because of this I have to use slightly more of it. I quite like the finish of this foundation, but you can’t really use it as a concealer like you can the original formula. I just use a bit of cream concealer over the top and it blends nicely. When I first used ths brand my skin was itchy for about 30mins, but after a while using it my skin got used to it. Most people don’t seem to have this problem though and it can be avoided with the use of a good moisturiser/primer beforehand.

I’ve also tried the Elizabeth Arden mineral foundation, which I liked at first but was using it in winter and found it a little dry looking. It could have also been the fact that I was using the Elizabeth Arden brush, which is angled, and not like a typical kabuki brush so you can’t buff the product very well. If I used it with my regular kabuki brush it probably would have been better. I’d say this is probably a medium coverage too, depending on how you use it.

Hope this helps a bit. I haven’t tried any other brands as I only went with the reviews I read and the products people seemed to like.

Thanks for that. Where do you buy the ID bare minerals?

I have an excellent kabuki brush from the Inika set so that should help 🙂

I forgot to mention I have found some mineral powders have a lot better coverage and finish than other foundations. I only went back to liquid foundations for a few months last year, but soon got a bit sick of them and switched to my powders again. They seem to look really natural, but make your face more luminous at the same time.

Jannz, Can you reccomend a good mineral powder with heavy coverage? Or medium coverage if not heavy? I’m always on the lookout for new brands to try out. Thanks!

    same as me Jaanz <3
