Losing weight but keeping the figure

Is there any way I can lose weight and yet keep my hour glass figure and curves? I am a 12-14 at the moment and wanting to lose one dress size.
It seems that when many people lose weight everything goes including the curves.
I heard weight training is good for this. Is this true?

I don`t think you can really change your genetic shape?? As with theother recs – weights for sure! You will really see great definition, enhancing what you already have. Squats and lunges are your best friend!! Some great exercises to define your sides are sitting with your legs in front of you, get a weight as havy as you can, maybe start with 3-4 kilos, and work the weight side to side from hip to hip so you make a semi circle motion. Another is standing use a weight in each side and one arm at a time, slide you arm towards the knee, then to the other side and so on…..

it depends which parts you`d like to tone and lose weight in. If you`d like to keep your hips, for example, try cycling instead of going on the treadmill as it works your legs more than your hips/bum.

Generally though, if you concentrate on all-round body toning and weight loss, you`ll keep your shape but lose weight because you`re working out all the areas of your body at the same time instead of concentrating on certain areas, like on a treadmill. You`ll still look like yourself, just “”smaller””.

Thanks so much ladies for the advice.

I will plan to see a personal trainer at the local gym once uni has finished.

yeah, lenny thats what i want =) some muscle definition =)

i think weights will help out and i want to do it very slowly, no point in crash dieting.

i am 5`8″” and i used to be a size 8 and looking back at pictures i looked a bit weird and something was not right.

    will definitely report back.

    xx

Unfortunately you cannot loose weight in particular spots – your body decides where the weight goes on and off. Weight training liked with cardio and proper eatings seems the most effective way of going down a size while retaining your shape. Maybe you could go to a gym and talk to a personal trainer?

By the way, congrats Yvette Rose on being proud of your gorgeous hourglass shape and loving your curves! (As a tall broad-shouldered A-cup I think hourglasses have such a gorgeous womanly shape!)

it depends alot on each person`s figure i think.

i know for me weight training has helped keep my figure. i was a size 12 at the start of the year and i`m a 10 now but i`ve only shifted 1kg and i`m still really curvy. i haven`t been keeping track of my measurements but i`d say i`ve lost quite alot of cms off my frame.

i`ve heard with weight training it will take longer to actually lose weight compared to if you were doing cardio also because muscle weighs more than fat so that will help keep your curves intact i`m thinking…i`m not sure, you will probably just have to try weights out and see how your body goes with it. are you doing weights at the moment?? it`s addictive – once you start to see some actual muscle forming (even though others can`t see it!! haha) you`ll be jumping to get to the gym everyday 🙂
