Irritated Armpits

Not too glamourous but it happens from time to time (or regularly for some of us). What seems to irritate your armpits and what do you do to avoid it/help it?

I get irritated armpits when I shave every couple of days and/or use antiperspirant. I started using a natural roll on deodorant (crystal roll on with essential oils) and that’s helped a lot but every few weeks they’ll get irritated if I shave too often. I don’t seem to get any irritation if I only shave once every 5 – 7 days (but that’s not going to be fun during summer).

I’m doing the Dove trial at the moment (using the Dove Go Fresh Cucumber & Green Tea one) and at first it was great, I didn’t get any irritation but after 2 weeks of using it, i’m starting to get itchy again and it’s getting worse as the days go on. I think it’s not as irritating as other antiperspirants because it has moisturisers in it but obviously something in it is still setting my armpits off.

Interested in your comment on Miessence deodorant and wondering which one it was. I’d been using the Ancient Spice Roll on and very happy with it – worked really well and liked the aroma. Decided to next try the Tahitian Breeze one and although I didn’t like the aroma as much, still found it good. I’d only used it a few times with no problem, then suddenly when I applied it it was stinging under my arms. I hadn’t just shaved or anything and stopped using it for a few days, but the same thing happened next time I used it. Luckily I didn’t get any rash, but I’m not going to use it again. No idea why, but think I’ll give the Aroma Free one a go. I find the Miessence very effective in stopping body odour and more so than any other natural deodorants I’ve tried. Just interested to know if yours was also the Tahitian.

I used the tahitian breeze and aroma free. it happened with both unfortunately. I never tried ancient spice.
I believe its because of the bicarb in it. made my skin super dry too.
it was great for odours though.

I’ve been using Nutters deodorant since and find it works very well.
occasionally I do get a slight irritation, usually only if I shaved or rubbed my armpit with the towel too hard. I avoid that by shaving at night so it has overnight to calm down before I apply the deodorant after my morning shower. and try not to rub my armpits too hard lol. but its not nearly as bad or as common as the miessence. that actually caused me pain and took weeks to heal.

the nutters deodorant comes in the regular deodorant roll on size which I think is $12 and then a big one (which I always get) for $20 which seems a lot for a deodorant but I find lasts ages.

    BUMP

So I’ve been using the Miessence deodorant for a few months and I thought it was going great and I bought a new bottle a week or so ago and each time I applied it I’d get a slight tingling sensation which I ignored – I know, how stupid.

Anyway last night I woke up in pain and my arm pits were stinging so bad!!
it felt so bad, I actually thought my skin had bust open.
this morning I checked and I had horrible rash.
even the water from the shower stung!!
I applied a little moogoo msm cream which seemed to help a bit.

I don’t know why it took me so long to have a reaction 🙁
its such a shame as now I have to go on the hunt again.

please any recommendations for a natural deodorant? I think it must be all the essential oils so if you know one without them I’d really appreciate it.
I was looking at the moogoo one but I’ve been reading very mixed reviews….

Yes, sounds good! I just looked at that link BM, and it appears that there are a couple of other ‘flavours’. Will be interested to hear the results of the ‘sweat test’ missteaaddict!

Good pick Missteaaddict!!! I love the Lavera brand, they have gorgeous scents. It is a bit pricey but sounds very nice. Creamy sounds nice, I prefer the creamy ones as they are usually moisturising. Did it come in other scents? I like rose though.

I needed a deodorant fix today. The heating at my work was really getting to me and i’ve been getting hot flushes recently. Of course I left my deodorant at home 🙁

So I took a trip down to the health food shop in my lunch break and picked up this: http://www.lavera.com/products/Deodorant_Roll_on_Wild_Rose-909-1000096.html

It was $13.95 but it was one of the only ones that wasn’t crystal (my crystal one is too drying and makes me mildly itchy). The first few ingredients are Water, Aloe barbadenis leaf juice, (Bamboo) cellulose and zinc oxide. It’s fairly creamy when you apply it and it’s white – don’t know if it leaves white marks as I never check and don’t notice. The rose smell is quite nice and a bit strong when you first apply it but once it dries you can’t smell it much. I still haven’t put it through a good sweat test but my armpits are already feeling less itchy.

My underarms are much happier lately with the new cream deodorant I bought from ebay 🙂 It smells so good too.

I’m glad the new deodorant is working well for you BM. I just had a look at the link you posted – interesting ingredients list! That’s something you could even make yourself. So what’s the ‘sweat factor’ like? My skin is so unhappy with anti-perspirant, but I cannot stand to have soggy armpits. Yuk!

I’d love to make my own oneday. I just have to buy all the ingredients. I have the coconut oil to start. Here’s a recipe to make your own. http://www.passionatehomemaking.com/2008/03/update-homemade-deoderant.html

You can just add essential oils to that mix. I’d like to purchase more from Mandy but the postage is just as much as the price of the actual deodorant which is annoying but Mandy says that she only charges what the actual postage costs which I beleive. It’s quite economical and lasts ages unlike some of those roll ons. I go through them so quick.

Sweat factor, yes you still sweat but the sweat doesn’t smell. So you will feel a bit wet under the arms if you are doing something physical but I’m happy to get used to that feeling. When i don’t sweat I tend to just get itchy. It must be something to do with the blocked glands.

I resorted to Ipl as shaving really irritated my skin. I would often get ingrown hairs which are so painful. It was the most worthwhile thing i have ever done! I would definitely recommend it.
