Incect Bites

My baby keeps getting attacked by mozzies and sandflies. I have screens but the little critters get in and aim straight for bubba. Any suggestions as to repellents would be great. I just treat the bites with calamine lotion.

I use Larissa Bright Pure Body Balm on my baby, its also a great barrier balm to prevent nappy rash. It`s natural and australian, I`ve used it on just about everything, bites and grazes plus I use in on my heels and elbows in winter, lol!

My dd gets eczema and I find its the best treatment for the flaky, dry patches she gets. Its under $30 per pot, its awesome. I got it online, it arrived just a couple of days after I ordered it and I noticed results with my daughters eczema within the week.

As for a repellent, there is a natural, essential oil based one I got from the chemist – it has ZERO chemicals in it. I can`t remember the brand, but it is in a green bottle with a white lid…

    Thanks for all the tips!

PF I hope the mossies get bored of you soon! Hope you and bub are doing well 🙂

Rockie – I think i`ll definitely look into something stronger. Can someone make me a suit that repels bugs? I`d be so grateful!

Trish – you might be right about toxins and allergies, I`ll have a chat to some of my friends that are med students and see what they think. Will definitely have to try and take care of myself better and sleep more I think!

Jatz – I had no idea what Ross River was until I googled it, sounds awful 🙁 I hope it didn`t hit you too hard and that you recovered quickly.

I am having terrible luck with insect bites. A few weeks ago, a small spider bit me on the back (next to my shoulder blade), it hurt quite a bit and took about a week for the pain/itching/swelling to go away. Then a few days later I got several mossie bites on one knee so it swelled up and was quite painful!

As if that wasn`t enough, last night I got bitten my a green ant on my heel :/ I wear Aeroguard all the time so it`s really annoying!

After getting Ross River last year (from some dam mozzie), when out and about I`ve been using OFF Tropical Strength to repell those nasty insects. Aerogard didn`t seem to last for me and the smell got to me. Off lasted 6 hours.

Hate those green ants…they love me but I just dab on some of that Thursday Palntation Tea Tree Oil……works great on insect stings. They also make a cream which is good also.

Oh Hon you ARE having a bad time lately, aren`t you? Things have to improve, quickly I hope. This will sound weird but I put lavender oil on and the insects seem to stay away – now I need to add that I`m not out all that often when mozzies are out. I hate the smell of most repellents so this works for me.

Just a thought – because you`ve been bitten recently by a few fairly toxic creatures you could set up an allergy reaction so may need to see a Dr. if you have swelling again fairly soon. Hope you don`t but don`t ignore it if it does happen.

Take care – sending a hug.

Oh you poor thing. Try a insect repellent with deet in it. I seem to be a magnet for mozzies and this is the only thing that works. I quite like the Bushman`s one since it does come in a spray bottle rather than an aerosol

I`m sorry I cant help with the mozzies getting in( or rather on keeping them away), though my eldest does have a reaction when he does get bitten. The bite becomes more swollen, red and itchy than normal. I find Stop itch available from the pharmacy and probably even supermarkets really helps calm the irritation, which means he doesn`t scratch himself to bits. Hope thats a little bit of help.

I have tried the cloves only once and I have run out of candles, keep forgetting to get more, I will get back to you with the results, thanks darl.

melmeko, did the cloves work? From readings I found out that eucalyptus oil and tea tree oil work as insect repellant, too.

Badger Balms are available at DJ now.
