I need face primer recommendations!

Hi everyone,

I have recently decided that I need to invest in a good primer. The most famous is Napolean’s Auto Pilot, but are there better products out there? What have you guys used and found to be the best? Which hold foundation longest? Which even out the skin the best? Help me!

Smashbox`s oil free primer is absoloutley amazing, it has nothing on napoleon perdis`s auto pilot.

Is it silicone based or no??

I`m still going through my sample of the Smashbox one – it`s sooo good, makes my skin all soft and silky.

For the long term though ($55 for a primer to use with $20 foundation isn`t so smart) I use an Australis one. Still makes my skin soft and silky to a lesser extent and makes my makeup last.

I`m actually really glad I didn`t hear about the Face of Australia one sooner because I would have bought that for sure. And considering my skin had a reaction to one of their tinted moisturisers I don`t like my chances with the primer.

I have really sensitive skin and their primer is really gentle and lightweight. I also have oily skin and this one doesn`t leave my face greasy. Its basically more like a moisturiser though and I prefer the silicone style ones better 🙂 I think I might go back to Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch primer when I run out of the Philosophy one (which I am loving)

    Hey Guys

If you like Napoleon Auto Pilot Primer, try the Face of Australia Face Base Primer (not the 3 in 1, but the Vitamin E one). I havent used Napeolon primer in 3 years, but this is a great dupe and its only $10. I have sensitive skin and it never breaks me out and aggitates my skin 🙂

Hi Antzypants & welcome to beauty heaven 🙂
Thanks for the tip, I`ll have to keep that in mind as I also have sensitive skin & will be looking for a new primer soon.

I use Mirenesse primers. They have a couple of really good ones. The Absolutely Smooth primer is awesome, it makes the face feel literally like velvet. Then I also use the Pore Perfecting Mousse Primer, which can also double as a foundation.

I forget the name of the Mirenesse one that I am currently trying, it is a gel based one, not exactly very hydrating though, which I thought would be good for me as my skin is oily and while it dries matte it makes my face really shiny after an hour or so. It is not that good at disguising any enlarged pores or imperfections either but on the same note it does seem to keep my makeup in place longer. I guess it just isn`t for my skin, but others might have success with it. Shame coz it was looking promising at first. I still have not tried it with liquid foundation so maybe that will have better results 🙂

it sounds like your using the Maxisculpt Gele. That`s in clear gel form. I don`t find that very hydrating either. It`s supposed to be pat onto the face, not rubbed in too. I`ve heard people actually say that it makes a great night treatment, so I usually use it for that now.

That is the one, haha, maybe I will try patting it in next time, I never rub primers in as I know they are supposed to sit on top of the skin but I kind of just smoothed it on, I have always been told to apply it with a foundation brush but most of the time I am too lazy, lol

I love the Australis primer, cheap and works great. Ive tried the Natio one too and it is too runny.

LM or Nude by nature work for me.

The nude by nature one actually smells good 🙂
