I HATE THE DENTIST

I have just returned home from the dentist, i had a small hole in 1 of my teeth and had to get a filling. It was horrible and i am terrified of the dentist!!! My mouth is still numb and i can’t feel a dam thing. Does anyone hate the dentist as much as me?? Before i go i get all sweaty and nervos and my heart beats a mile a minute.

My dentist has a tv on the roof so it helps me to take my mind off what`s going on.
Or sometimes I take my iPod and tune out.
I just tell my dentist before hand, he`s pretty good at letting me `zone out`

I need to go for a check up, I`m well overdue!

I had braces for a year and a half and had an expander in for nine months beforehand. Weirdly enough, I didn`t mind going to the ortho! Of course, I very much minded the ortho who decided to pull my last baby tooth out without even telling me. (It was wobbly but STILL. My dad rushed in as everyone in the waiting room had heard my shrieks.) Taking off the silver bits around my teeth from my expander was the scariest process for me as some of my gum had grown over it (it happens when you have the things on for 2+ years) and they were on tight. I asked the ortho to please not accidentally pull the tooth out!

My last dentist was really great but I`m terrified of having my three fillings done by my new one. :`( Honestly, I have regular nightmares about terrible things happening to my teeth. Cracking, chipping, falling out, turning black from decay, etc. I`m really paranoid about my teeth – I mean, you only get one set! – and this is why I make myself go to the dentist yearly or ever months.

I`m like you Alice – the instruments FREAK me out! Working in a vet clinic, I have to monitor dentals all the time, something about teeth that freaksme out! I`m also so scared of the needles i have never had them. I have braces, so having orthodontist appointments every 6 weeks is helping with my nerves!

Bumping this topic as I have a bit of a rant!

I`m one of those people who looks at dental instruments and practically passes out from fear. But I diligently go at least once a year because I don`t want to be one of those people who don`t go because they`re really scared/hate the dentist and end up having to lose teeth because a problem wasn`t spotted early on! Kind of like a pap test – my mother is guilty of that!

Anyways, my amazing dentist left the practice I go to and is working in the city (boo!) and I`m really upset about this as I am thinking of going to him even though the city is an hour`s train ride. I have to have three fillings next week and bloody hell, I`m terrified. As pathetic as it is, I have Mum make my appointments (as I don`t have the guts to make them myself!) and insist that Dad comes in with me to hold my hand.

I think retainers have really helped me as I now brush my teeth a lot more than I used to…3 or 4 times a day at least.
