I tan easily but over my holiday i applied thick layers of sunscreen up to 4 times a day and still came back 3 shades darker. I didnt get burnt but can still get cancer?

Abrazosbesos I know what you mean! I am the same – my skin tans sooooooo quickly – I apply very good sunscreens properly too and I also tan very easily and don`t burn either. In fact, it stays pretty well tanned throughout winter too, but I get even darker in summer. Two of my kids are the same and my youngest is different. So I suppose it is just genetics. It`s from my mum I think as she has the same (she`s 65) and is Dutch. My dad also has olivey skin but does go more fair in winter. My sister is pale as a ghost but will tan slowly if she is careful. I love gardening (and apply the sunsreens) and I suppose I am an outdoorsy type as well generally.

well tanning indicates sundamage it`s the cells trying to repair themselves, so when the tan fades away it means the cells have repaired themselves but just one cell can be permentalnty damaged and can become a mole and melenoma,
    remember to slip slop slap,
maybe you could try a different sunscree, stay under the shade of an umerella or wear a shirt or sarong
