HELP! Rash under my eye that won’t go away!

Hi everyone,

First time forum poster! Thought some of you knowledgeable ladies might be able to help me.

I have a small red rash under one eye, it refuses to go away. I’ve changed my cleanser to a creamy one by Clinique, I’ve been putting rosehip oil on it daily, I’ve tried all kinds of my Mums expensive thick moisturisers, I’ve even tried Ungvita (Vitamin A fish oil).

Nothing is working! It looks horrible and won’t go away. I haven’t changed my diet and I’m not under any different kinds of stress either.

Any suggestions of cleansers or creams/serums would be most appreciated!!! x Laura

I have gotten like red eczema rashes under one eye before and I had no idea why as I hadn’t changed anything in my skincare routine. I just stopped using what I was using and tried something more gentle and it eventually cleared up. Maybe try an organic certified product, a true one, with no nasties.

    Hi mioche,

I’ve had the same problem due to eczema but managed to get rid of it twice. Mine was really bad at some point with red rash all around my eye and bad swelling. I stopped using all the skincare products immediately and swapped to aloe vera gel (twice a day) and aqueous cream (as often as needed). I also changed my diet to eating more fruits, drinking more water and avoiding egg and milk based products (I suspected my allergic reaction might be food related).

Also (and I think this step made a huge difference), I started taking vitamins and supplements like zinc, fish oil and…milk thistle tablets.

It took a while to clear up but now there is no signs of dryness, rash or extra wrinkles in the area.

Hope that helps and good luck with getting rid of your rash…

Hi, to me it sounds like either you have eczema or an allergic reaction. Something similar happened to me a while ago i had dry red bumps underneath both my eyes, i realised it was an eye cream that was doing this to me.

So what i would suggest for you is to go to a really simple sensitive face routine, don’t use really fancy or fragrant face products because it could be making it worse. I would stop using all the products you have been, buy cetaphil gentle skin cleanser and a sensitive moisturiser with no fragrance and if you are currently using a eye cream i would stop that for a little while too.

Hi mioche, if its not red and itchy (which would possibly indicate a reaction) and is just sore and dry with a red mark it could be a form of eczema another option is an infection if theres a site that was open eg blemish. I had a problem like this a month ago where the skin near the corner of my outer side of my eye was irritated and sore. Turns out a product I had switched to caused an eczema reaction which thankfully settled with a cream from my dr and discontinuation of the product. Hope that the rash clears up for you 🙂 p.s I had forgotten about ungvita! That is such a versatile product.

Oh I’d like to add to my comment above – the swelling took 3 weeks to disappear, and 6 weeks on I still have a bit of redness.

I once used a rather expensive Elizabeth Arden cleanser (for sensitive skin) and it was really drying and gave me 2 huge rashy red rings underneath both eyes. I haven’t been tempted to buy any skin care from that brand since.

I had a similar thing – I think I must’ve accidentally scratched the skin under my eye in my sleep or something, I had this huge red inflamed mark under my eye, with dry peeling skin like a scratch from a nail, and my lower eyelid even got a bit puffy! It took 3 weeks for the redness to go away, and I found that any creams I used just made it worse. I think the skin under the eye is just hugely sensitive and takes longer to heal – I agree with the advice not to use ANY products on it. I’d also give it some time to heal on it’s own, if it hasn’t disappeared after a few weeks maybe get a doctor to look at it.
But feel happy that it isn’t puffy – that definately wasn’t a good look for my 2nd week of uni 😛

Try some fresh Aloe Vera, that helps my girls when they develop a rash. If however rash is itchy or painful, i would be going to see a doctor. Hope it heals soon 🙂

I tend to get rashes on face face and my first advice would be to stop using whatever new products you’re been using, like your new cleanser. If it still won’t go away, if you visit a doctor or a dermatologist they can give you a cream that if very effective for making iti go away.

Describe what the rash looks like or pop up a pic if you can. If it’s red then sounds like an irritation or allergic reaction but if it is white bumps it might actually be milia which are quite common under the eye.
