Going from Blonde to Brunette. Opinions?

Hi guys,

I have naturally brown hair, but slowly switched to mostly blonde. My natural hair looked ashy, especially in the summer, and I hated it – it was like a mousy brown.

I’ve been blonde for a while and I do think it suits me, but more and more I’ve been noticing how gorgeous dark brown hair can look. I would love to be able to pull off glossy brown hair, but don’t know if my skin is too pale for it. I’m Ukrainian and my skin does tan, it tends to go more olive-type colored as opposed to yellow, but doesn’t get very dark. And in the winter especially it’s quite pale.

Could someone please have a look at these pics of myself and advise me if you think brown hair would suit me? What shade would you recommend? The hairdressers I’ve asked tend to give noncommittal responses, kind of like “Blonde suits you, may as well keep it I guess”. What do you think?

Here’s a photo from a few years ago with my natural hair. It looks better and less ashy in the photo than it did in real life, but you can still kind of see that it’s on the “dull” side. I was thinking of a more rich, warm brown:

    Just thought I`d post an update on this. I started gradually going to brown like some of you suggested. It`s taking some getting used to – the `brown` they put in my hair isn`t actually the brown I had in mind. I was thinking more of a warmer, richer brown and they put in more of an ashy brown. A couple of days in I`m actually starting to like being a bit darker, but next time I go to get my hair done I think I`ll try a warmer tone. I think it`ll just take some experimenting to get the exact shade I want.

    I think you look gorgeous with pic 2 colouring – why not try a similar brown to your natural colour with blonde highlights and then slowly move from there rather than doing it in one hit. But I think a medium to dark brown would suit you it will make your beautiful skin and eyes stand out. I just went from blonde to dark brown and my natural colour suits me best even though my hairdressers were saying blonde suits me dont forget they make more money on blondes. The problem you have to face is getting it back to blonde – it will take ages and go orange and yellow first for me anyway but you are naturally lighter so it may be faster for you.

    PLEASE DONT! You will look absolutely gorgeous! and having the same colour for too long is a bit bland. But youll look gorgeous no matter what. try either a dark sultry brown or a caramal shade of brown. xx hun.

    I just noticed this thread, you would look great no matter what colour you selected to colour your hair, some people can do it and you are definately one 🙂 I am guessing from your photos that you are a model, so it is good that you can be so versatile 🙂

    yeah, that colour on Miranda`s hair is jsut amazing. A nice caramel brown, with hints of borwn. so envious of her, since its her natural shade. And yeah, your skin is jsut so beautiful it would really help it look amazing if you had darker hair, though i think your genetics help you pull off blonde as well. you ca n go either way. i think jsut take the plunge, dark sultry brunette will definately suit you. xxx

    To be honest, I think that dark brown hair would look amazing on you. You have amazing porcelain skin, and the darker shade will really set it off nicely I think. I`m naturally pale as well, and everyone seems to be agreed that dark suits me nicely – I think you`re one of the lucky ones that could pull off whatever colour you wanted! I`d say take the plunge and go dark 🙂
