I definitely agree about the cheaper salons, i would like to tell you all that MMA is a known carcinogenic (cancer causing agent). It is banned in Australia but that does not mean it is not used, it is cheaper and is imported and used usually by foreigners in busy nail shops where they wear the mask!!!!!!!!!!
When you decide to get your nails done choose a reputable salon with therapists or nail techs who have been trained to the Australian National Standard, if in doubt ask!!!!
Are they certified? It should be hung on the wall and on the certificate for that individual there will be a triangle in the bottom corner and below it it will say Nationally recognised Training.

In regards to drills there is a time and place for them. 1. Not on the natural nail. 2. Only on a 4 week french refill. where the smile line needs to be realigned.
Flat files should always be the first option.

Research your salons before you get Acrylics done!

There are too many nail salons that just DONT do the right thing. Especially in regards to Hygene. If you already have Acrylics and notice that your nail tech is using dirty equipment, and/or not making you wash your hands etc, go to a different one. It`s worth the extra money to get quality nails done by a professional, rather than risk a fungal infection by someone who`s doing them cheaply, cutting corners & using inferior products.

Ask people where they get their nails done if you like the look of them. Most people are happy to tell you.

In my experience, the single nail salons seem to be much more focused on hygiene & quality than the Shopping Centre salons. I made the mistake of trying out a shopping centre one and felt like cattle being rushed in and out of a farm.

When I went to a “”real”” salon I am offered tea, coffee (or on special occassions champagne), have a nice hour chat with the tech and leave feeling pampered.

BOTTOM LINE:-If you`re going to spend $40-50 on refills every 2 to 3 weeks you should be extremely happy with your nails AND the salon.

the best thing for your nails is gel but i am a sucker for acrylic but do be warned if you go to the cheap places for refils you will end up with either nail infections or blood poisoning as they tend to use the cheaper products and dont sterilise their instements so careful where you go it may cost u a little more but worth it in the long run

Acrylics (french tip) are my weakness, they are so pretty and go with all my outfits.
Try not to get them too long, especially if you haven`t got them before because you have to get used to them short-ish, you will experience HORRIBLE pain if you accidentally pull it or get it caught on something.
And refills suck because they look kinda ugly so I sometimes put a nice coloured polish over it until it`s time to get them done again!

hi, i actually find that when you wash the dishes make sure you are wearing gloves because the detergent can cause breakage and loosening of your acrylics, apply top coat every 2 days helps your nails looking fresh and new, an helps your nail polish last longer.

GG – I agree that a lot of places file the nail down too much, I used to get burns under my nails from the electric file, but I do have more sensitivity than many, so I usually have to deal with more unpleasantness with beauty things than most, so I didn`t think too much of it.

I might look into Bio Sculpture – sounds very good.
