Face illuminator – powder or cream

Hi girls, can anyone advise on using face illuminators? Also, are cream ones better or powdered ones? I have never used them and was curious about what could suit a medium dark warm complexion. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Gurleen

I like both, even though I have combo skin and can get oily in the sun.

I remember yonks ago Guerlain had a limited edition cream/mousse illuminator…i think as a branch of the meteorites range in this gorgeous heavy glass jar with a gold lid…I used it sparingly for ages but I’ve run out now of course.

I like NARS multiple stick, cos its portable and easy to use. I also like Givenchy prism highlighter quads….but not the brush that comes with it.

I like powder, it’s light and easier to use. Just a sweep here and there and you’re done.
And with staying power, it sits well with (liquid) foundation but if you use powder, dust illuminator once, pat down with your sponge and do a last dust with it.

And Prestige should be available at your local Priceline or pharmacy 🙂

Hey Grikhraj, EDM is available only online, Viki’s sample costs $2.50. there are many “try me free” ones too. It is worth checking out.
I got Lumene from a temporary stall in DJs. You could try eBay.

Or maybe the EDM or Lumene one….probably a naive question, but where can I try these products out or are they only available online?

Thanks so much for all your suggestions. Sorry about not being online for ages, we have just spent Christmas and new years between our families and boy it’es been busy. Sounds like I will have to try the prestige one….

Like Mel I have the Prestige powder illuminator. I have dry skin so I find I generally need something to brighten my skin a little, and with this one you only need a tiny amount. I can’t see mine running out for a couple of years!

I agree with Stay C – I think it’s really dependant on your skin type – if you’re at all oily it’s genrally better to go with a powder, otherwise the cream will just slide off. I’m quite oily so I don’t really like to use an illuminator at all, as it just makes me look shinier in photos. Though I’ll use an illuminator under my eyes to brighten them.
