Dry cleaning

Hi beauties! I need some advice,

on the weekend I bought a silk dress on sale for $49 wore it once to a wedding and the waitress dropped a dirty knife landing on the lap of my dress! I’ve taken it to the dry cleaners this morning and they have quoted me $25… is this too much? I am very short on $ at the moment and said i’ll have to think about it and left – can I hand wash silk myself or should I get it dry cleaned or not bother for a $49 dress?

Thanks in advance! it’s a cute dress too will try take a pic for you xox

If you love the dress I would pay it. But asking around wouldn’t hurt. Double check that they will definitely be able to remove the stain. I would be so mad at that waitress!!

I’d pay the $25, it’s better than losing a dress.

I have a few silk dresses and have paid around the $25 on a normal dryclean (no stains etc)
That price sounds about right to me.

I personally wouldn’t wash silk especially if it is pure silk with no other fabric added to it. Did the drycleaner assure you that the stain can be removed? If you really love the dress I would go to a couple of other drycleaners but double check that the stain can definitely be removed. The stain may be more difficult to remove if the dress is a pale colour. If the stain is caused by some greasy stuff on the knife I think you may find that drycleaners will charge a high price for cleaning it.

So sorry this happened to you. The catering company at the wedding actually should pay for the damage. I would contact them or the reception place and talk to them about it if you want to go ahead with getting it cleaned.

I hand washed a silk dress and the texture changed – it lost it’s silky feel, so be very careful if you choose this route. I’ve read somewhere that adding vinegar to the rinse water can prevent this.

Personally, I would very hesitant about washing silk myself. It’s such a damned delicate fabric! Why must it feel so amazing against our skin?! lol
My suggestion would be to perhaps have a look at what’s available for at home delicates washing if you are considering doing it yourself – I’d definitely hand wash! Alternatively, I think $25 is maybe a little high, although not terribly and if you shop around other places, maybe you can find a better price. Good luck 🙂 What an annoying thing to happen, I would have been super annoyed with the waitress!
