do you know any affordable wedding dress shops in Melbourne
Hi there
I have no idea where to start. I’m looking for good affordable wedding dress shops in Melbourne to find a wedding dress for myself (wedding date is 1 Apr 2011)
I’m not goint to go extravagant, just simple yet elegant (and perhaps not white)
Does anyone know of any good shops???

Hi joburkey, if you don’t mind a short drive, Pearls and Roses and Bridal House in Geelong have lovely dresses and I don’t think they are too expensive. I saved money on mine by designing it myself by putting together parts of dresses from bridal mags and having a dressmaker make it for me, so that might be another option for you. 🙂 Have fun looking, it just takes a bit of time but I am sure you will find something lovely.
Can you tell me the name of your dressmaker? I’m looking for one in Melbourne.
I don’t know if this appeals or not but look in the Trading Post newspaper for second hand wedding dresses.
There are many reasons why dresses are listed and sometimes it is because the people are no longer getting married, so you can score a new one.
Good luck.

Bump
Hey beauties as some of you may know a few wedding dress shops in melbourne have gone into liquidation and some brides are left with no dress and lost all money.
Im about to go in search for a wedding dress in a few months.
I’m just hoping I don’t pick a shop that will go into liquidation with in a year.
John said I should make them sign a contract lol.
Does anyone have any tips?

thanks for all the advice ladies. i must say there are plenty of places in Dandenong that you can get something decent (and quite inexpensive) off the rack. Also at this time of the year they are turning over for the next season so they are on special too!!!
I would highly recommend Leah S Designs Bridal Complex (233 Lonsdale St, Dandenong) They are one level 2 (it is a huge place and looks like a princess would go there hehehe) their website is http://www.leahsdesigns.com.au/
They have stock of plenty of gowns, the service is impecable and they are such a beautiful place to be (it’s like a hidden gem, the outside of the building is quite old but don’t let it fool you)
I was able to get a beautiful dress off the rack from them and their alterations do not cost much either.
I also bought the shoes today too so now everything is totally organised!!!!

I don’t know what area you are from so I don ‘t know how far you are willing to travel. I agree with MML about Dandenong being a good place to go, the streets near the shopping centre and the main road (princes hwy/lonsdale street??? I think there’d is a street name change there) have some good looking boutiques. Also near southland in Cheltenham on the Nepean Hwy ( near Chesterville road) there is a bridal and formal hire and i think purchase store by the name of Ferrari Formal and Bridal.

The Brunswick end of Sydney Road has thousands (that maybe a _slight_ exaggeration but there are a lot) of wedding dress shops so it might be worth your while spending a day having a look around there. 🙂
Agreed, I used to live off Sydney Rd & I used to daily fight my way through the throng of brides-to-be & their entourage searching for their perfect gown. They have everything there- from very reasonably priced off the rack to hand-made Mariana Hardwick. Good luck with your search!

thanks ladies for the advice, i’d be looking for something off the rack, i’ll be starting to look in a couple of weeks. I’m not sure if i’m going to go the wedding dress traditional look, i migh have look at some formal gowns (i love colours so i might have more of a choice then)
sorry Kristie, i’m not looking for a second hand dress, i don’t know of anyone wanting one at the moment but i’ll let you know if there is someone i know.
