do you have to dress according to what music you listen to?

Why does it seem that every teen who decides to change what music they listen to so does their image (clothes make up etc) for example at my highschool hardcore/metal music was in but you could just like the music and dress normally how you do you had to wear the black band shirts, converse high tops and fit the sterotypical mould of a hardcore/metal head otherwise you were a poser, just wondering if everyone dresses acording to their music choices, personally i dont i;m really girly but like hard rock/alternative music??
just thought this would be interesting to find out

I like to listen to music and my favourite music is Kpop. BTS Army is my favourite band. Recently I bought a BTS Hoodies online because I like to wear a dress according to my favourite music.

I am like Samlovesgrace….generally I am mainly into rock/alternative tunes but I don`t walk around in skinny black jeans with a chain hanging off them sporting a pink and green mohawk hairstyle LOL. I also go through phases where I listen to nothing but hip hop and r&b but again…I don`t walk around looking like Fergie or Beyonce (I wish lol).
Apart from my work clothes, I generally dress quite feminine and wear whatever I think looks nice – some of it being the latest stuff and other times just stuff I`ve had for ages which still looks lovely.
I don`t think anyone should dress in a way they don`t feel comfortable…I know when you`re a teenager the pressure to “”look”” a certain way is there and I doubt that will ever change, that is just how high school is. It`s like a pigeon-holed situation that requires young people to fit into it…whether the look is `emo`…grunge, goth, preppy…””plastic””, hippy…I dunno what the current terms are, I feel old now hahahaha.

I love heaps of diff genres of music from some rap, rock pop etc etc but my dress is quite girly.

I bet you dont let your parents tell you how to dress so why should you let a particular band or music tell you??

I do not listen to music, therefore, i do not dress.

    Teen thinking is so flawed..

I love a bit of everything – theres always a good song to be found in every genre, and i can`t tie myself down to any one of them (sadly). My dressing reflects other influences, personal preferences and just basically what i`m feeling! So really, dressing according to what music you listen to allows you to belong to an identity, but one`s real personal identity transcends anything clothes can offer =)

Interesting topic bexie! I personally don`t dress according to my taste in music, I am a very girly girl – I have platinum blonde hair, wear a lot of pink and pretty clothes and dresses and do my makeup fresh with pink glossy lips and all, but I love punk rock music and `emo` music! I personally hate when people generalise and categorise people, I think we should be able to dress how we like and listen to what ever music we like without pressure!

No you dont have to dress according to what music you listen too. but it`s bonus with me . As i love corsets, Tartan clothing and i love my mullet :P. I listen to 80`s old skool music. But then i like to listen to other genres of music,at times.I just hate the whole stereotyping thing tho.

yeh, nah, i don`t think you have to dress according to your taste in music, but it`s kinda easier for others if you do. i don`t really have a favourite genre of music, but people are usually suprised when they find jsut as much Rasmus as Beyonce on my ipod. i dress kinda girly, but i also love dressing up goth on halloween and costume parties and stuff. i think that you don`t have to dress rock to listen to it, but if you do dress rock then you`re kinda obliged to listen to it. get me?
