DIY natural hair lightening?

I’ve heard alot about how you can lighten your hair by using natural substances like fresh lemon juice or white vinegar. Ive tried lemon juice diluted in water and sitting in the sun for a while and it made a golden colour it was very subtle and not noticable to others.

Has anyone used anything they made themselves at home that was been successful? Esp for brown hair as i think this is harder to lighten naturally than blonde…

I wouldn`t recommend DIY lightening – it is extremely difficult to do – my sister decided to try it and turned her hair orange! It`s something I`d definitely leave to the professionals – I know some hairdressers who recommend certain products to do touch ups yourself – but without professional advice I wouldn`t go about doing it yourself or you may have to spend a lot to have it fixed!

The acid from the lemon will dry your hair. My friend said that she tried it & didn`t notice the difference in colour.

Please don`t try to lighten your hair at home!!!! Not only will you damage your hair but it is very hard to impossible to get a nice blonde shade from brown hair at home. I have light brown hair and after 8 packs of the strongest store bought bleach my hair still had a lot of red in it. It was so damaging. Store bought products are not strong enough and there is quite a bit of science behind lightening hair. I have seen hairdressers that have even got it wrong on my friends.

Vinegar doesn`t lighten your hair but it makes a good rinse for shiny healthy hair

Lemon juice apparently doesn`t really lighten your hair either but there are mixed opinions on this. It is very damaging to sit in the sun with a hair of lemon juice.

The only thing I have ever heard of that lightens hair without making it red or brassy is chamomile. I don`t know much about it at all but it would take a long time to get what you want.

lemon juice and sun works if you have blonde hair and want to add highlights, i would suggest getting a professional to add highlights or using a good at home product.

ok thanks for the suggestion, sounds good. I`ve read that the best colour for your face is no more than 3 shades lighter or darker than your natural shade, maybe the reason this lightens up to 3 times.

I`ve never used anything like that to colour my hair, but that sounds really interesting 🙂
If you want to lighten your dark hair i suggest dying it with Loreal Preference becuase the product is created for dark hair, it doesnt work on blondes and it lightens dark hair up to three times, my natural colour hair is dark bornw/black and i`ve used he Loreal Prefernce for the first time and it`s terrific! My hair is now a light brown, very highly reccommended product, hope i helped!
