DIY Facial

I must admit I have never had a facial at the beauty salon or spa, but wondered how I would go about doing my own facial at home to replicate the facial at a salon. I love the feel of a warm face washer on my face, and it makes my skin look far clearer and evens out the pores. I would love to hear some of your ideas for what you do once a week or so, for your skin to pamper yourselves and do a mini-facial at home.

When I have a lot of time to relax I like to make a hot bubble bath, surround the bath with candles, have my essential oil burner going with soothing music playing in the background to create a calming and relaxing environments. After about 10 minutes of closing my eyes and daydreaming, I apply a hair mask and face mask and allow them to work their magic as I drift off back into pleasant thoughts. Then I use a full body exfoliating scrub to get rid of all my dead skin and create soft touching skin. Then I scrub my toes and my nails and give myself a head massage.
When I am pushed for time this is my regular routine
    – The first thing I like to do is put a white towel headband like they put on you at the day spa. That way you are ready to get pampered.
    Then I:
    – Fill my basin with warm-hot water and add a few essential oils. With a towel cover my head and lean over the basin for 5 minutes to breath in the aroma and open up my pores.
    – Then dip a face washer into the water and cover my face which is nice and warm and opens the pores up even more
    – Using a creamy cleanser and in circular motions work the cleanser over my face focusing on chin, nose and forehead.
    – Using the wash cloth slowly and lightly remove the cleanser from my face
    – Then I use an exfoliating polish to remove all excess dead skin and work at clearing my pores for a deep down clean, once again working in circular motions starting at my forehead and working my way down.
    – Once I have washed off the exfoliating polish
    – I apply a deep cleansing mask to my face and neck for 15 minutes.
    – Normally while I wait I remove my polish and give my nails a file
    – Then I hope into the shower to wash off my mask and wash my hair
Last year I had my girlfriends over for a night in of pampering I set up 5 beauty stations.
    – Foot bath station
    – Pedicure station
    – Manicure station
    – Face mask station
    – Hair treatment station
It was a lot of fun because we watched girly movies, lots of chatting with a few snacks. It was a fun night in and a great pampering session too.

I love your idea beautalicious, I’ve been thinking of something to do like this for my sis who is getting married and I think this would be a great ice-breaker for all us bridesmaids!! I’m def gonna give this routine a try as well!!

Yes!! What a perfect idea for that! Definitely keeping that in mind!

Beautalicious has a wonderful routine. Love the idea of having the girls over and setting up 5 beauty stations – very professional approach!

I do a mini facial once a week, usually at night so I am very relaxed before going to bed.

Like Beautalicious I put a white towel headband around my head so my face and neck is completely clear of any hair. I start by taking off any makeup using my usual cleanser. Then I exfoliate my face and neck (also decolletage if I use a gentle exfoliator) and ensure that I rinse it all off with a fresh facewasher with warm water which is very relaxing. Next, I use a mask on face, neck and decolletage – depending on what my skin needs I will use a clarifying mask, a hydrating mask or a healing mask. If the mask has to stay on for at least 10 minutes or more I make a cup of tea and sit on the couch and enjoy drinking the tea.

I remove the mask according to the instructions. Then I might use a toner and then apply eye cream, serum, night moisturiser and again ensure that I moisturise my neck and decolletage.

During summer I usually follow this routine twice a week as I need to exfoliate more regularly. In winter, I might use a mask twice a week, once for clarifying/purifying and second for hydrating/healing.

It is very relaxing and your skin will love you for it! x
