DIY Blonde Hair
I would love to learn how to do my own hair, im currently very light blonde with black roots. I am considering buying the myHD products but am unsure. Any advice? I know its dangerous to dye your own hair at home especially when your a blonde with a dark natural colour. But my hair is already very blonde, proving it can handle it. I just need to learn how to maintain my hair myself, without paying over 100 bucks every 4-6 weeks. I usually get my roots done, and a toner at the hairdressers and thats a small fortune for a student.

I have been doing the home bleach for about 5 months now. No way can I afford to have it done at a hair dresser. I use 40 vol peroxide and hi lift bleach powder. It needs to be mixed into a smooth paste. If you’ve seen the consistency of dye at the hair dresser you know what to aim for.
I always get a friend to colour my hair as they can see the back and top of my head. The one time I did it myself it ended up horribly uneven. You are much less likely to have uneven or missed spots if someone else does it.
I haven’t had to use an ash toner yet but I do use Schwarzkopf Igora Colour Gloss 91/2 – 1 at least once a week. Leaving it on for longer than the reccomended time gives a nice white finish to the hair – no yellow tones. http://www.schwarzkopfusa.com/products/igora/colorgloss.asp
Shampoo is also really important. You need to use one especially for bleached hair. I use Movie Tone Hues Silver Screen Ice Blond Shampoo and Conditioner. http://www.naturallook.net/hair/colour-refreshment
And remember to condition, condition, condition.Alishes how long do you leave the bleach on the roots? and how dark are your roots? Im just trying to gage for next month how I will re-do it. I must say Im not at all dissapointed with how my hair has turned out. The grey/silver has completely washed out now. And my head did not itch as much as when I get it done at the salon! I just can’t justify spending $130 every month…thats over a grand a year. And I never pay for a blow dry and hardly get it cut because Im so cheap! It cost me under $40 to do it myself 🙂

Yer I think it has already washed out a bit Melmeko like you said, but I think I will go and get a Clarifying shampoo. Good idea. Just Cuts actually don’t do colouring, just haircuts lol but they sell colour and make a point of letting people know how to colour at home. I guess ive learnt how to colour at home now 😉

i would definatly keep washing your hair more than usual this will help tone it down. the day should have recomeneded you use a no lift developer. also when you are using the highloft colours (901, 902, 908) you do need to leave them on your hair for a good hour as it will go golden then it will tone down to the ash blonde, as we wll freek ahh its gold get it off my hair but that is it just proccesing.

So I went to Just Cuts because they sell at home proffessional hair dye. The lady informed me I would’nt need to bleach the roots and I could just use My Hair Dresser 901 (Light Ash Blonde) all over (extra time on the roots) with a 40 Volume Developer. She then said I could make it more ashy by applying a dark ash blonde with a Colour Activator? (I think thats what its called) for 10-15 mins. Anyways…now my roots are a bit orange, not to bad, but not perfect. And my hair is just 2 shades greyer than I would prefer. Any advice on how to just lose some of the grey?
If it was caused by the toner then it will not last long and will definitely settle down, maybe you could wash it with a clarifying shampoo a few times until it wears out, but if you don’t want to wait you could try either a warmer golden shade of coloured mousse, Goldwell have them, or maybe a semi permanent golden or honey blond to warm up the grey a bit. Good luck darl, glad they helped you out at Just Cuts, that is good customer service, rather than tell you that you should get them to do it, lol.
