Dandruff

At the moment my scalp is really flaky and it’s driving me nuts. I don’t like anti-dandruff shampoos – they’re too drying on my hair, and strip the colour out anyway.
Does anyone have any good remedies for this problem? I think I was told once that massaging rosemary oil into my scalp was good, but for health reasons I can’t use rosemary oil.

thanks Loretta. just go easy with it if you are concerned. if bp is high you should also be cautious with peppermint and any others that aid circulation in high doses. i would stick to a .25% dilution or 5 drops to 100ml base.
also for the dryness rosemary isn`t necessarily the best choice, i would use the others i mentioned first as they are more hydrating, oh frankinsence and patchouli would also be good.

You are such a wealth of knowledge Princess! Thanks so much for this info, I will definitely try some of those oils, and hopefully say goodbye to the dryness!
I didn`t realise I could still use rosemary oil in small amounts, that`s great!!

hi Loretta, it is not necessarily dandruff, it could just be that you have dry skin. i use jojoba oil but you can use olive or almond, any really they are just much heavier. rosemary is very good for circulation, if you have high blood pressure, you can still use it but in a very low dilution. it only usually affects blood pressure when used in high doses regularly. that aside, you could use some essential oils in the base oil like lavender, geranium, virginian cedarwood, sandalwood, bay laurel, rose absolute or just the plain vege oil. all of these oils are good for the hair and the scalp.
if you mix essential oils i use 20mls base oil to 5 drops essential oils which is about a 1% dilution. leave it on for 10 mins or so then wash hair before you wet it, then rinse and wash again. be prepared to have to wash again the next day but i find it really helps if you do this at least once a week.
comb it all through your hair, it is very good for it. hope this helps. lol 🙂
