Hey I’ve decided to change my university major towards the end of my degree. I’m just really eager to hear any success stories if anybody has them =) thanks.

good luck ! changing majors is a big thing- but you have to comfortable and love what you do in your studies.

i never changed majors in my arts, but i did add a minor- philosophy.

i sometimes wish i did politics instead of history as my thesis for honours is a literature/politics but i am coping.

have you spoken to a careers advisor at uni, or your dean (if possible)

What are you changing it to?

From Psychology to Art History or Film Studies. Big leap.

    Thanks for sharing your stories.

Whoa that is quite a jump, have you spoken to people who are doing or have done art history/film studies?
Im not sure about the success because Im about to start uni this year and I dont have the many success tales to share with you
but eventually you wil make the right choices

That is a bit of a change. I worked out early on in my 1st year that I wanted to major in English literature and Classical Studies, so I’m glad I didn’t have to make any big changes. I intially wanted to major in Anthropology, but soon found it really wasn’t for me. I think my friend went from law to sociology to linguistics and then finally to criminology, where she was finally happy 🙂

I decided to do a double major in my first degree and it went very well. They were psychology and sociology. I loved both subjects and couldn’t choose between them so went for a double.

Later in life I had a mid career crisis (rather than a mid life crisis). I decided to undertake a Masters degree in law and I absolutely loved it. It involved great sacrifices from a financial point of view but it was one of the best decisions I made. It is never too late or too early to change subjects and/or degrees if you are passionate about what you want to study.

hahah this is right up my alley! i’ve started first year uni 4 times, 4 different uni’s, 4 different courses. And I’ll be starting again mid year in another course, but by distance uni. Ultimately, I’ve found that you have to be happy with your major or it won’t work. So if you’re gonna be happy changing to your new major, I say go for it. I know lots of friends that changed the BA major or BSc major and were very successful. Good luck!
