Brrr it’s cold in here! Winter skincare
Brrr what is with this sudden cold snap eeekk! So NOT a fan of the cold months!
I have oily and acne prone skin that gets easily congested, however in winter with sitting in heating all day and then at home, I find my skin gets dehydrated. I hate the dry, tight feeling – yuk!
I up the ante with my bodycare and user richer moisturisers and apply hand cream more fequently however how can I ensure my face is hydrated as I am unable to use heavy products so as not to exacerbate my skin condition
In summer I use dermalogica’s Clean Start Welcome Matte with SPF moisturiser and when wearing makeup I use Ultraceutical’s Hydrating Gel. I am now using only the hydrating gel as my moisturiser.
Beauties – with all of our different skin types, how do you look after your skin in winter?
I want to keep my skin hydrated without it becoming any further congested?

While I’m on the topic though, I may as well ask… Do any of the budget beauties out there have any suggestions for a hydrating mask?
Spunkx, you might be able to get a good price if you shop online. Also, you might want to see if Olay or Dr Lewinns have hydrating masks as they are good brands. x
Thanks Roxymisha 🙂 I’ve just found a very cheap Nutrimetics hydrating mask on ebay… has anyone tried this??

Oh my gosh how cold is it today in Melbourne!!
I have normal/sensitive skin & only really change my daily moisturiser during the winter months. I change from a light SPF 30+ lotion to a richer SPF 15+.
A hydrating mask is a great idea to up the winter hydration ante, which one do you use Roxymisha?Spunkx, I have 3 in my bathroom – Dermalogica, Murad and Ultraceuticals Hydrating Gel. I have only used Dermalogica which is a beautiful product and will try the others now that I have to use masks more frequently. I have used a number of Murad products and have been very impressed so I would be surprised if it is not a good one.
Hi Roxymisha, I just remembered asking you about this & hunted down your answer! I’m wondering if perhaps these are a bit out of my price range, maybe not, I’ll go look for prices on the Dermalogica now.

Products that I am loving at the moment as they’re saving my skin from turning into a dry shriveled mess.
- Gaia Creamy Cleanser
- Ecotools “Love Heels All” Heel Cream
- Ecotools moisture socks (the best for slipping on after the heel cream, then I put some fluffy warm socks over the top and leave them on overnight)
- Light, hydrating body lotions (love the Ectools one in the pump pack and the Dove visible beauty one is also great)
- Organic Essence (US) lip balm in Vanilla (the most moisturising natural lip balm i’ve ever used, though the packing is a bit awkward when i’m at work)
- Hand Cream, currently using the Organic Essence AU one and Bloom’s Butterfingers
- Lush’s lip scrub in Bubblegum (an absolute life saver)

Yeah I wonder if Moogoo contains comedogenic ingredients? I seriously have so many products that I don’t know if they clog or not. But now that I’m using asap skin care I reckon the skin care will unclog everything for me. Well I hope anyway.

I’m using Kosmea Moisturising lotion these days. It’s really nice to use.
Or my Burts Bees Marshmallow vanishing cream.Yumm marshmallow sounds delish!! What is it working to vanish is that for pigmentation etc or wrinkles…? How are you finding it?
Shopaholicshell,
The marshmallow vanishing cream is just a cream with marshmallow extract, forgot what that’s for now. I think theres something good about marshmallow extract. The vanishing part is the way the cream starts out white on the face but as soon as you use it, the white vanishes to clear. I’ll be putting it on my swap list now as my skin is a major problem for me at the moment and I’m starting on ASAP skin care and want to get rid of everything else in my cupboard! -

I have yucky oily skin however it does get dehydrated occasionally, especially when its cooler but most hydrating creams are just way too rich for my oily skin and leave my face all greasy. The best solution for me is my Medik8 Hydrate B5 Serum, this is a magic serum I tell you now, it provides more hydration to skin than most moisturisers, but it is superlightweight and not even the slightest bit greasy. Its described as a gel formula but its not, It feels like nothing more than water on your skin, honestly… but its not water, it has Vitamin B5 and Hyaluronic Acid (the best most effective hydrating ingredient available)
Anyway that is my skin savior when my oily skin needs a burst of instant hydration, I love it, definitely a staple for me, I often also use it as a night cream regularly coz I hate how most night creams make me wake up covered in a layer of oil, lol.Sounda great Mel. Is this something you use all the time, or just occasionally?
Cheers!!Hi Shell, initially when I first got the serum I purchased it to use solely as my nightly moisturiser, because as I mentioned, most night creams are just too rich and I would wake every morning with a layer of grease coating my skin. So I stuck with the serum, which I loved with its lightweight texture and its ability to keep my skin nice and nourished without the normal suffocating feeling I sometimes get from creams on my face, whilst I was tweaking my current skin care regime. So basically, ever since I introduced the Clarisonic and finally have my routine down pat, I just use it every second night. I had to adjust my Retin-A treatment to work-in the Clarisonic but, without overdoing it. So what I do is, one night I will use the Clarisonic to cleanse with a standard cleanser, followed by a gorgeous natural night cream that I have been using for the past 6+ months (Simplicite Lemon Night Cream, one of only a few night creams that I like, because its ultra lightweight and non-greasy) Then the next night, I will cleanse using my glycolic based AHA cleanser (ASAP) followed by my Retin-A treatment and finish with the Medik8 Hydr8 B5 Serum, instead of any other cream based moisturiser. I stick these exact routines nightly and always just alternate the two. I can finally say that I am really happy with my regime and it is proving to be so beneficial, with a considerable improvement in the appearance of my skin and far less oil production, which has always been one of my biggest dilemmas. Because my skin isn’t getting all greasy overtime now, I rarely get congestion, blackheads are minimal (still the odd few that I can see on my nose because of the bigger pores, but when I extract them, there is hardly any gunk coming out, if anything at all) and the best part is no pimples. Only the odd hormonal buggers that still routinely pop up same time every month, lol. So overall, I am glad I have found the best routine that works for my skin that helps me achieve positive results, coz as the saying goes seeing is believing, and I can see the improvement so I really believe in my regime 🙂

I can definitely relate iluvfacialz and shull. I love cooler weather too, esp. here in Perth where it’s usually so darn hot, and my skin seems to behave a lot better. During the summer it appears more translucent for some reason, quite spotty, oily and just generally not very nice.
