Blemish-Targeting Skin Care Systems? Help?

Hello beauties!
Ok so I will get straight to the point:
I have been using Proactiv for many months now and, while it has cleared up my pimples fairly well, it is quite drying on my skin and as we are approaching winter and I’m almost out of Proactiv, I need your help.
I’m looking for a good acne/blemish treatment system that isn’t too harsh or drying (mind you my skin isn’t ultra-sensitive or anything so I can tolerate a bit). Do any of you beauties have any suggestions on good pimple-targeting skin-care systems?
I’m interested in Biore, has anyone had any experience with their products?
Thanks in advance for your help beauties, 🙂
BTW – I don’t have really severe acne, just always seen to have a few pimples all the time…
Thanking you all muchly 🙂

I have used biore before with average results. I gave cetaphil a go, it didn’t break me out, but it didn’t help to clear my skin. Since then, I’ve used garniers ‘pure’ range and it’s really made a difference. However, going into cooler weather I am finding its drying on my skin. I’ve also noticed that my skin isn’t as oily anymore as it was in my teens (im 21 now), so lately I’ve been using Innoxa. You can get Innoxa from priceline and myers, but im sure theres other places as well. It’s a bit cheaper than Clinique which is good, plus it’s more natural. It’s such a great range and I’m pleased with the results.

I have only used one biore product, and disappointingly found it to be the same standard as clean and clear 🙁
I recommend innoxa’s skinclear range. It has a cleanser, day cream (with spf), night cream and mask. The cleanser alone is amazing – I find just using this reduces my breakouts to almost nothing! This is impressive, as I’ve had pimples the past 10 years and tried so many different brands and products with none working. The day cream is really great too, for mattifying and sun protection. But if your skin isn’t too oily you may not need a mattifying moisturiser… However it’s not really drying at all, I find it keeps a really good moisture balance, just without being shiny.

clinique 3 step is really good for people with acne break outs and have oily skin!

I have though about getting the Clinique 3 step but I think I will have to do a bit more research on it before I buy it because it is more expensive than Biore or Cetaphil. Thanks for the suggestion! 🙂

I use a Cetaphil/Clinique/Dermalogica/ASAP routine lol. I find straight acne targeted routines to be waaaay too harsh. They just make my skin red so that it looks worse than it is which then makes me feel hopeless. I think just a good gentle routine with regular masks is the best thing you can do.

I’m really interested in that dairy theory! Sounds promising. Might do some more research on it thanks!

Thanks for all the suggestions oliveoil, Missteaaddict and Chockmousse, I will definitely consider them 🙂 I think I will try either Biore or Cetaphil, I don’t feel my skin is bad enough to try anything stronger…

Do any other beauties have any additional suggestions?

I love the Biore toner and it definitely cleared my skin up. I had no problems with it being too harsh or anything as Ltleena had, either.

Like oliveoil, I also read that dairy can cause acne and switched to soy about 6 months ago. This has been great for my skin, definitely give it a go.

I would recommend trying out the new “system” by Cetaphil. A Cetaphil cleanser and moisturiser formulated for oily/acne prone skin and a tube of Benzac 2.5% Benzozyl(?) Peroxide. It’s the same ingredient used in Proactiv, but it is the only of the 3 steps that utilises it, making it milder and less drying to your skin. I’ve been using it lately and found it to be very effective.

I have used the Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser and Pore Unclogging Scrub. Both are really good at calming down my acne when it flares up. The bottles also last ages, I still have about half of the cleanser left and have just finished the scrub. For the days when i’m too lazy to wash my face properly, I use the Green Tea wipes which are my favourite face wipes and I feel like they really help remove the oils on my face which prevents my acne.

It’s worth reading the reviews for Biore products and deciding if they’re suitable for you. Unfortunately for me, my skin has gotten used to the cleanser now so it’s not helping my oily face anymore 🙁

They’re worth a shot though and you can’t go wrong with the price, much cheaper than Proactiv.

Slightly off topic… I’ve had acne since my teens (I’m in my 30’s now) and have tried just about everything, believe me. Recently, I’ve read in a Dermatology textbook about how hormones in dairy products can trigger acne. I’ve switched to soy milk and avoided other dairy products for the past 2 weeks and my skin has never been clearer. Maybe you should give it a try? I’m also taking Dianne contraceptive pills on and off for the past 10 years, it’s meant to clear up hormonally-induced acne, and Retin-A (tretinoin) on and off for the past 15 years, which has a double benefit of preventing wrinkles. Dianne and Retin-A helps a lot, but laying off dairy gave a more significant effect. I wish I had learned about this 15 years ago.

So true Ltleena – I have given up expecting that my pimples will completely go away in the near future. I’m just after something that will hopefully reduce the amount of blemishes I get yet still keep my skin healthy…
Did the Biore products reduce the amount/severity of your blemishes (if you have any that is)?
Oh and don’t worry, you have been very helpful, thank you 🙂
And I see you are relatively new to the forums, so welcome! 🙂

I know how you feel, my skin has been blemished for years and i can never get rid of my stubborn pimples!
Anyway, while I was using the Biore products, i did have minor breakouts and it did help reduce some of my pimples – although it was very minor.
I would recommend using biore to help prevent pimples as opposed to clearing them up, because it can take quite a while to see results.
And thank you 🙂 I’ve just started to get the hang of these forums :p
