Belly peircing, products to help heal?

I had a belly peircing done 5 weeks ago, it healed at one stage and then got worse again. It’s not infected but hurts and a bit red. I need a great product to use to heal it up?

I have heard of sea salt water and currently I’m just using a alcoholic piercing spray which doesn’t seem to be working. The sea salt water seems to aggravate it whilst the spray doesn’t.

Anyway if anyone has any knowledge on this, it would be appreciated.

. It’s not infected but hurts and a bit red.

Firstly, yes it is infected. Just because it’s not oozing pus doesn’t mean there is nothing going on.

So, your first action is to go the doctor and ask for a broadspectrum antibiotic. This will treat the infection. Don’t muck around- infected belly buttons can become very serious as they can travel into your abdomen.

Personally I found that saline water from the chemist (the ones for contacts etc) will heal that up super fast. It’s antiseptic and it’s a natural product.

You should go and get some antiseptic cream with an anasthetic to help with the pain.

    This is copied from

    http://www.modifybodypiercing.com/aftercare.html

    Sea Salt soaks
1/4 – 1 teaspoon of Non Iodised Sea Salt [not table salt] or Rock Salt
    250ml Boiling water

Wait till water is warm, soak a new cotton ball or fresh strip of low lint paper towel and soak your piercing twice a day for five minutes [every time the cotton ball gets cold, get a fresh one].
If you can, fully submerge the area with a cup / shot glass soak for 5 minutes twice a day.

Lymph [crusties] is a normal part of healing so please do not pick at it, remove after Sea Salt soaking or spraying H20cean till soft. Picking at lymph will tear the skin, cause irritation and can lead to infection if you are picking at it with dirty hands.

Please avoid pools, spas and still bodies of water [e.g. Lakes] for as long as possible during the healing period. If you must go swimming, use a good quality water proof patch to cover your fresh piercing and clean if afterwards.

These places contain a large amount of bacteria and chemicals and can cause serious problems to a fresh piercing. .
Air drying your piercing is optimal, otherwise gently pat around the pierced area with a fresh tissue. Avoid towels, since they can catch and they carry lint, germs and dead skin cells.

It is very important to leave your piercing alone. Playing with and touching a fresh piercing can lead to irritation and infection. Piercings have varied healing times so your piercing may look healed in one – two weeks, but they are usually far from healed. ….
Try to avoid sleeping on your fresh piercing since this can also lead to irritation.
Swelling is a natural process, if occurring; apply ice to the area.
If knocked and bleeding occurs, apply a gentle pressure to the area, ice can also be used. .

With clean hands while cleaning, check to any attachments to make sure they are tight to avoid losing the piercing. Even healed piercings can shrink or close in minutes after having been there for years! This varies from person to person; if you like your piercing, leave the jewellery in place.

    Things to avoid..
    – Putting substances such as alcohol and Listerine on any piercings, fresh or healed. It tends to dry out the skin, irritating the piercing, and it will drastically lengthen healing times.
    – Changing jewellery before recommended healing times.
    – Over cleaning.

    Healing Times.
    Nose 3-4months.
    Septum 3 months.
    Lobe 2 months.
    Tragus 3 – 4 months.
    Anti tragus 4 months.
    Conch [upper / lower] 4 – 6 months.
    Helix 3 – 4 months.
    Daith 4 – 6 months.
    Rook 6 months.
    Industrial 6 months+

I heard that salt water would be too harsh and could irritate it but I don’t know.. Don’t they give u a spray when u first get it done? That’s what I used and it healed up nicely

The seasalt bathe is great, but mine got infected when I wore my ski pants too tight. I used bactine (an antiseptic spray) which cleared it up fully within a matter of hours. Ask at your chemist to see if they have this or something similar 🙂

I Ggot my belly done about 4-5 weeks ago… It looks healed, no redness etc.

But the seasalt works, i got cotton balls, soaked them in it and placed them on my belly for 15-20mins.

hi blackmagic – i had my belly dont when i was 15, i had a slight infection, i did a salt bath x2 a day. mix some salt with warm water in a small foam or plastic cup. lean your belly into the cup, and hold the cup firmly to “seal” the cup to your navel area. lean back on a couch or a chair and hold the cup there for about 20 mins. remove the cup afterwards by leaning forward so you dont spill anything. Dont twist and push/pull the ring at all. It might seem like a got idea to get all the gunk out but its worse as your body is naturally trying to heal around the ring so the gunk is normal. Also get some betadine ointment from the chemist and apply with a q tip. Let the infected area breath and dry up – try to avoid putting plasters on it and dont over shower or over clean it. Take some multivitamins too, it could be that your body isnt healing well from an internal perspective.

    good luck.

So just to let you know I did try bepanthin, sea salt baths, the piercing spray, dettol cream, betadine, a special spray with tea tree and maybe a couple of other things. Here is what happened lol

The bepanthin and dettol cream made it very infected.
The tea tree spray made it burn like hell and then swell up.
The piercing spray made it sting and swell up as well.
The betadine was okay but did sting quite a bit and make it bleed.
So all up the sea salt with warm boiled water was the best for clearing it up and the pain but on it’s own it hasn’t made a huge difference. So I’m going to use the sea salt baths with the antibiotic ointment. Once it’s cleared I’ll get it changed over to titanium or gold because I think my body just doesn’t like the silver.

Has anyone got a gold belly piercing?

My belly button piercing took ages to heal. At times it did get infected. I used an iodine solution called Betadine. It is supposed to act like an astiseptic and is made specifically for wound healing and first aid. I would drop a few drops over both ends of the hole and then move the bar up and down to help get the solution into the piercing. I think that was what finally made it heal. Since then I have not had any problems and have had the piercing for 5 years.

Hey Everyone, just an update. Nothing worked after trying many different products and sea salt baths. So in the end I went to the piercer and she recommended getting an antibiotic eye ointment subscribed by the doctor. So I got that and it’s healing up again so quickly after being infected for a long time. She said antibiotic tablets are no good but the ointment or drops do the trick.
