Aromatherapy & essential oils

today i purchased a beautiful oil burner from myer. Its a sunbeam electric oil burner. its really powerful, much more effective than the candle operated burners.
Anyway….do any of the beauty heaven ladies practise aromatherapy? do you use brands like jurlique, in essence?
I am loving perfect potions oils, affordable and very concentrated.
What are your thoughts on aromatherapy?

The best oils I have ever used are from Balanced Essentials
    http://www.aroma.com.au

They are amazing, especially the blends. I adore Be Relieved and Be Sport. Just personal experience but they have helped when I broke my wrist, both the pain and the healing. They are incredible.
Beautiful quality oils, based in Dural just outside Sydney.

Zaria, Perfect Potion is a retailer, Sydney Essential Oil Co and New Directions are wholesalers that will sell direct to public.
I used to work for PP many many many many moons ago and they did get most of their oils from SEOC and some from ND. I buy direct from the wholesalers as I find PP is totally over priced. Since I worked there I have noticed their prices more than double on many items and I just won`t buy anything from them now, not when I can get it loads cheaper. I find both ND and SEOC have always given me excellent customer service. I mostly use SEOC though. I hope that helps.

Missteaaddict, I`ve just discovered a lovely essential oil blend that I love from In Essence called Tahitian Escape which contains frangipani:
    http://www.inessence.com.au/Product/8823513/~products~8823513~tahitian-escape-aromatic-oil-blend-9ml

They also have a matching candle and reeds.

I went oil sniffing the other day, didn`t work out too well as my senses were hypersensitivite. Everything smelled either too much like Ylang Ylang (which I can`t stand) or too soapy or too citrus (and I do like citrus). But I fell in love with “”Scent of Woman”” by Springfields, I looked at the oils and thought “”nah”” but after I sniffed it I couldn`t put it down. It`s super strong too, only need 1 to 2 drops in the diffuser.

All the in essence displays were abysmal, missing testers and tester bottles that lookedlike they`d gone off. Still deciding if I should buy Precious Perfume online without snifffing it first.

I would recommend Essence of Wellbeing who are based in Mornington Victoria

The lady you runs the store is a qualified Aromatherapist who knows all about the essential oils and products she sells. She`s never to busy to answer my questions (hopefully not all were stupid ones!) and provide information and recommendations. She also has a number of unique essential oil blends – personally I love the “”Happy Kids”” blend (yes I know I am probably a bit too old but it is a regular in my vaporizer).

Their website also has a great “”Learn & Discover Area”” with articles on using essential oils and natural skin care http://www.essenceofwellbeing.com.au/Learn-Discover

A tip for “”Missteaaddict”” if you are out sniffing the oils and it all gets overwhelming and after about five or six they all start to smell alike. Take a small jar or bag of coffee beans with you, open the jarag of coffee beans, smell their aroma for perhaps a minute or two, and you can go back to enjoying your the aroma of the essential oils. They seem to clean you sense of smell I have seen a small jar of coffee beans at a number of essential oil retailers and they keep it there for just that purpose.

Thanks for the tip! I have heard that some things can cleanse your sense of smell but I always forget what they are when I need them. I`ll try to remember the coffee bean tip for next time. Another trick that I learned is to sniff the lids as they aren`t as overpowering and you can smell them better – especially good when the blends are really similar and you want to pick up on the subtle differences.

A quick question for anyone: how long do essential oils last for? Because I bought some bottles recently that say Expiry Jan 2014 but I figure that they`ll be good for at least a few months as they were unopened when I bought them.

The essential oils will be fine, if the essential oils bottles have been unopened.

The key is storage, thats keeping the bottles tightly sealed, storing them in a cool location, and out of direct sunlight. Assuming your essential oils are in an amber or dark glass bottles you should be fine. However, note that once the essential oils bottles have been opened and the oils exposed to the air – this opens the oil to oxidization and this is the main cause over time for the degradation of essential oils.

They did have a body lotion in this range too. It was beautiful. Not sure if its still available. It is a lovely scent.

WhiteLily, I did an aromatherapy course 25+ years ago, so I can`t recommend a place. Much depends on whether you want to do a course for your own enjoyment, or whether you want to study it for a career. This might be a good place for you to start some research:
