Advice on tiredness & lightheadedness

I just thought I would get some advice before I rush to the doctors …
I have been getting a good 8 hours sleep each night but I am constantly tired and feel light headed… I’m always exhausted and I feel as though I could just sleep all the time. My concentration is extremely low and I have exams coming up so I really need to fix this as soon as possible.
I know I am stressed and that is a factor but if anyone else has been through anything like this, what could you recommend.
My housemate suggested it could be low iron levels and so I am going to seriously reinvent my diet and nutrition- any suggestions please??

fashionista8P, I don’t mean to scare you, but I had very similar symptoms a year ago and it turned out to be anxiety and stress related 🙁 if your doctor can’t find anything, then I’d say it might be stress-related; it’s shocking how much effect stress can have on the body. I didn’t even realise I was stressed at the time! I was having very similiar symptoms as you – I was getting up to 10 hours sleep and waking up exhausted, felt fatigued and lethargic, couldn’t concentrate on studies, and I was having dizzyness/light-headedness too. I was also having headaches most days, and my digestion was all out of whack. I did have slightly low iron, but even when I had supplements I felt exactly the same, I just had an increase in energy (which I couldn’t use coz I’d get dizzy/light-headed if I stood up/walked for too long).
It was really terrible, and I was so glad to get to the bottom of it. A psychologist can help with stress management, but it can be a bit too confronting going to see one. There are probably lots of good stress relief suggestions that your doctor could help you with, as well as other healthcare professionals. I’d also recommend yoga – I reckon it’s done as much good for me as my psychologist did, and I only go once a week. (http://www.dru.com.au/dru-yoga/what-is-dru-yoga this is the style I do, it’s amazing for de-stressing)
I hope you feel better soon 🙂

For the tiredness is something like Glandular Fever possible? especially if your late teens to early 20s.

The dizziness/lightheadedness could be something like Vertigo.

Best bet though is to go to your doctors and get them to check it out and do some blood tests.

At the start of my pregnancy I got light headedness and had blackouts.

:S im defiantly not pregnant.. lol!… I once nearly passed out at work on a completely unrelated matter and my mother said the same thing, ‘ur not pregnant are you’ …. 😛

Are you sure the passing out was unrelated?
That happened to me a bit when I was anaemic too. Now it never happens when i’m eating properly and keeping my iron levels up. And no i’ve never been pregnant either.

Good to hear you’ve changed your diet, i’m sure it will help a lot. Recently i’d been getting tired and headachey when I was at work and after a week I realised it was caffeine withdrawals! Unintentional of course (I could never give up tea) I just hadn’t had the time at work to have a tea. It’s amazing how what you do and don’t put into your body affect the way you feel. On that note, i’m off to eat some yogurt.

ow dear, there are so many factors that it could be… i really appreciate all the advice though…
i changed my diet and added a lot more iron rich foods so i really believe that is helping, I also think its got much to do with my frame of mind, straight away when I decided to do something about it and change my behaviour and diet I immediately started to feel better.
Its just that we all lead such busy lifestyles and we often tend to put our bodies and health on the backburner and prioritise everything else above that… we all need an extra long vacation somewhere tropical i think 🙂

I think it may be due to low iron levels. Go to the doctors and get a blood test done.

Make sure that you eat healthy food and drink lots and lots of water and take your blood test done so that you will come to know wheather the prob is because of low iron or whatever it is

    Sleep well—(meant undisdurbed Sleep)

One of my freind had same prob who was diagnosed with sleep apnea—

Now she is doing well with treatment.

So better see a doc(Sooner the better)

I always feel like this when I’m low in iron. I have to take 3 iron tablets a week to boost my levels because I never get enough iron.

I agree with Missteaaddict that you might be anaemic. Feeling tired and light-headed are anaemia symptoms. And if you are anaemic you might be lacking iron as well. I suggest seeing a GP if you have a good GP that is. A naturopath or an irridologist might help as well. I went to seen an irridologist recently and he was amazing. Hope you feel better soon.
