What do you do with beauty products you don’t like?

If you have purchased or acquired a beauty product that you don’t like, what do you do with it?
For Example:
1) Do you repurpose the product like a body wash into a handwash or laundry detergent
2) Give it away to a friend or charity
3) Other

I offer products that don’t want or use to my family & friends, but if I can’t find a home for them, I donate it to my local charity who are more than happy to find someone in need that could use it.

I give it away, It could be more useful to other people.

Since creating this link, I came across a way to repurpose/upcycle your eyeshadow on fb: https://www.facebook.com/buzzfeedtopknot/videos/1894693140603394/

This is a great topic cityglenda, I’ve got a few perfume bottles that I don’t wear anymore due to my hay fever so I’m using them as house sprays as I’m not so bad with that with my hay fever until they are all gone & they don’t go to waste. I’ve also got a few bb creams from a while back I gave one to my aunty which she loved definitely like the idea of re-gifting thing’s to other people or family etc. As long as you don’t give it back to the person who gave it to you that’s fine. Op-Shop’s take them but as long as they are full or a little bit taken out they can re-sell them if they are half-used they give them to the volunteers who run the place so either way someone will use them.

Few years ago I bought a scrub that was way too harsh for my face. But it worked great for my body.

Great tips on repurposing. I also hate waste.
As my Mum doesn’t buy much for herself, she will usually put a cream to good use if I can’t use it.
So glad you said about returns, skincare junkie. Because if I am that unhappy with a product, particularly if I have done research and it is meant to be suited to my skin/hair etc, I will try to take to point of purchase. I don’t know if the product just ends up going in the bin, but sometimes you can financially break even.
Many many years ago now, I returned a Chanel Foundation to DJs, because the colour oxidised on my face. I just said to them “I’m sorry to do this, but this colour shouldn’t have been sold to me”; and I did get my money back. Hopefully they used the bottle as a tester/for applications.
If you know of any homeless shelters or care places like that in your CBD, I’m sure they would be happy to take donations for use. I know there seems to be a fuss about hygiene, but if its not eye or lip products and is in some kind of tube/container etc – I’d sure give it a go if handed down to me.

I’ll always see if I can repurpose the product to suit me first ie. if it is foundation and it doesn’t suit my skin tone, I’ll try mix it with a lighter/ darker shade. Otherwise, I’ll ask my family and friends to see if they want it. If not, I’ll usually end up throwing it out.

If its moisturizer , I use it as a body moisturizer. I will add some oil ( like coconut or apricot kernal) so its heavier ( if it was facial moisturizer. Shampoo makes a good, alternative clothes wash ( clothes smell good too). Perfume, makeup – I’ll find a home for it. Usually family or my close friends =)

Mamamickey, a fabulous idea to use shampoo for a clothes wash. I`ve just tossed out some shampoo which I didn`t like, next time I`ll remember your tip.

Great question!!! I’m a chronic re-gifter!!! But you have to make sure not to re-gift the item to the person who gave it to you….

I have a group of friends that we all share products if they don’t suit us. We just let each other know what we have and someone always claims it. My mum has passed, I don’t have any sisters and my daughter is too young so they would sit in my drawer until room runs out otherwise. I’m happy someone else gets use out of it and what goes around comes around!
