Plagiarism!

So I was browsing adore beauty and noticed a rather familiar review for the aveda foot relief…

Someone did a blatant copy/paste of my review! I think someone copy/pasted it to points rack – adorebeauty has a thing where you get $1 credit for every review you write.

I’m disgusted that someone would do such a thing because it’s dishonest af. At the same time I’m also scratching my head as to why they chose to plagiarize this review, it’s not even a good review :S

I have already emailed adore beauty about this so I will see what happens.

I also thought I’d bring it up here in case anyone has also had their review plagiarised from here.

    So wrong!

Unfortunately i do not think there is any control for people copying and pasting reviews. It is unethical, but there doesn’t appear to be any rules or regulations in this area. Perhaps there may be some monitoring for plagiarising or putting up a same review twice within the same website, but definitely not for different websites.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, I am surprised it is such a blatant copy and paste. And at the response. Good point where you can not really believe all reviews because how do you know if they are genuine .

I’m sorry to hear that this has happened to you…. Hopefully something can work out from it… Thank you for making us aware that this is happening…

Thanks for posting this up, shame about their response but at least it was taken down.
It’s a shame if there are spawns of people doing this – kind of puts some doubts into reviews from that website now

Wow! I’m kind of surprised. Did you email BH also?

A simple, thanks for letting us know, we will look into this and have it deleted would have been suffice.

    • 5 yrs, 2 mths ago

No I haven`t emailed BH, I don`t think there`s really much they can do. I feel the responsibility is on the user who plagiarised it and adore beauty who vets all reviews before posting it.

I`m more disappointed in adorebeauty tbh, because it`s in their terms and conditions that reviews must be your own and they don`t seem to have done anything to educate the user about plagiarism. I don`t need them to punish the said offender or anything, but at least just educate them.

Educate them bettina44? Sorry but this person is dishonest and clearly knows what they are doing – stealing others reviews for their own gain.

I’m not on Adore beauty but find their response offhand and dismissive. They seem more upset that they begrudgingly have to remove a good review rather than being concerned at a member gaining cash benefit. Poor form adore beauty.

Yeah, I totally agree with you there Kassalee. I was pretty pissed at first but I tend to think an informative approach of `hey you copied someone else`s review, this is wrong, here`s why and don`t do it again` than `you stole someone`s else review, you should know better, we are banning/punishing you for all of eternity` would have a more profound impact and might change a person.

That said I would probably feel differently if it was a piece of work I cared deeply about say, like a logo I designed. In that case I`d be `off with your head!!!!` and have lawyers etc chasing after them.

Wow..I am so surprised they have responded like that.. the service I had always recieved from Adore has been top notch, I am surprised their response has so dismissive. One would think they would take people racking up their points credit with false/plagerised reviews more seriously.

OMG seriously, some people. Gosh their response is terrible too! If that were me I would respond telling them how poor their customer service is LOL!

  • 5 yrs, 2 mths ago

Update: I got a response from them. They have taken the offending review down but I’m still disappointed with their response.

It’s like acknowledging it was plagiarise while also not acknowledging it was plagiarized. And I’m not even sure if they are going to put safeguards etc so it doesn’t happen again.

    Their response:

Thank you for reaching out to us. I would love to help.

This appears to be a customer review. It’s quite possible that this review was searched via another website and then added to our review list that was completed by a customer. When we accept customer reviews we always like to believe they are genuine reviews written personally by our customers. But unfortunately it appears this is not the case at all. As we offer store credit for reviews, it appears a sneaky copy and paste was done.

I’d be more then happy to remove this review for you 🙂

I hope you find this helpful, once again I’m terribly sorry for this.

    Warm Regards

Really surprised about not penalising the person, just advocates for people to use their benefits incorrectly.

    • 5 yrs, 2 mths ago

That`s sort of a `we don`t really care` attitude, especially the “”I`d be more then happy to remove this review for you””.

It wasn`t a case of `this is totally unacceptable and we will be withdrawing the review` but more like `if you have a problem with it then we will remove the review`. And, it seems no implications for the copy and paste reviewer.

      • 5 yrs, 2 mths ago

Yeah, that was what I read from it. I did send a reply along those lines but I think I might follow up with a phone call if I have time this week cause I can`t seem to get through to them in an email =/

    • 5 yrs, 2 mths ago

Wow to me that is so unacceptable!!! Removing it but not telling the plagerer is not on, they should be told

  • 5 yrs, 2 mths ago

    Wow! That is just low.
