Personal Messages via the Forum (suggestion)

With the new site came many new features, but pming was not one of them. We used to be able to enter other members’ usernames (or our own) into the search bar & find any reviews, forum posts or article comments by that member. Now, the search bar shows “No results found for your search” when usernames are entered, but forum thread names do yield results. If I ask a member a question on a thread she posted on but isn’t following, it’s possible my question will remain unanswered because she hasn’t seen my question. We could “chase up” a member when we notice her comments on another thread.

Another solution is if forumites each start up their own forum thread containing their username, eg I might create a thread: “Misfortune8 messages” or “Contact misfortune8” or even just “misfortune8”. Anyone wanting to ask or answer a question to me directly can find my thread using the search bar. I could then post my response on their “personal” thread. When we start a thread, it shows up in “My Threads” by default, & we get a notification in our Messages when next we log on.

Of course, this isn’t “personal” messaging. Anyone on the forum, member or lurker, could see the message. Still, it will save us going through countless threads checking for answers to our comments if all the answers are together on one thread. I haven’t created a personal thread (yet). I don’t know if others think this is a useful way of messaging each other or not. There will be limited privacy but a higher chance of reaching your target. This idea will only work if a large proportion of forumites create their own threads. What’s the concensus? Yay or Nay? It beats carrier pigeons.

EDIT: I’ve just started my own thread. Link here: http://www.beautyheaven.com.au/forums/talkback/contact-misfortune8-here
Feel free to follow suit.
