    Dear Alice,

I am really sorry to hear you were so excited about this option and then got denied the chance to do it. However, if you are still at an age where your mother can stop you from doing this, you probably should not be doing it yet anyway. I’m not saying you don’t need it now or that you aren’t suffering, but breast growth can go on until your early 20s – by the time they have fully stopped growing you will be old and independent enough to make the decision for yourself.

I’m not saying that to hurt you more, but please understand – I went from DD to FF between the age of 16 and 21. I would have hated myself if I had gotten this surgery before being absolutely sure I was done growing. You don’t want to go through this surgery with these risks only to find out you’re gonna get bigger afterwards anyway. You don’t want to risk that. The procedure is very much worth it – worth the risks and pain – but NOT if it ends up having no effect. I hope you understand what I’m trying to say here? You really want to rather be safe than sorry here. You don’t want to have a bad complication and then find out it was all for nothing anyway.

Complications are rare but yes they can be quite bad in those few instances. I remember my night in the hospital after the surgery – the nurses came to check on me every one or two hours to make sure my nipples were properly re-attaching – it was only then it really hit me it was (unlikely but) possible I’d actually lose a nipple. It’s very rare but if you’re gonna risk this, do it when you know it will help you forever, not just for now. I would rather have one nipple than the back pain I used to have – but that was a lot of pain after quite a few years of carrying them.

It’s very possible to be unhappy with the results. My surgeon did not make me as small as I requested, and I have to live with that, but it can also be something else.

What I am trying to say is that I think your mother means that this surgery has to be a last resort. It has to be when you are 100% sure you are done growing, it has to be at a point when you are so bothered by your current breasts that you would be able to forgive yourself if you DID end up with an unexpected result. Again, I was in so much back pain I would rather have one nipple and sizes I did not agree on, than go back to what I had.

I know how you feel… just like you I had to wait. But now that I’ve been through it I know why. You really don’t want to do this until you know you can handle whatever outcome it has. Even if complications and ugly results are rare, once you are in that hospital bed you don’t want to regret little things like waiting a bit longer, if it had ended up making a difference.

I hope this somewhat helps you?

I couldn’t care less about scarring. My mums problem is that complications that could happen during surgery or that I would be unhappy with the end results. I just hate my boobs because people ridicule me about them behind my back, my sister constantly brags about her perfect chest size, I can’t properly fit into the right sized clothes.

^ I have wanted a reduction very desperately for over a year now, ever since I heard about them! My mum even took me to the plastic surgeon to talk about it with him and told me that if I lost a bit of weight (not that I’m over weight, I’m average) – 5kg to be exact – and my boobs were still the same size, we could go and see our options about the surgery.

I started losing weight and approached her about what she’d said a year back and she then said that she’d only gone along to know more about the surgery and that she was never going to allow me to have it. This of course upset me completely and I spent about a week not talking to her and crying my eyes out.

Anyways, I’m trying to lose those 5kg now but my motivation is GONE. The only reason i pushed myself to start working out was because that surgery seemed so bloody close. This isn’t very relevant but I wanted to share my (kind of) sad story with you guys. A girl I know has had the surgery done a few months back and she’s loving the results. As you guys can see, I’m very jealous! :'(

Hey Alice, have you seen the end result of this procedure?
Are you happy with the amount of scarring left behind?
I’m only asking this because you are quite young and maybe this hasn’t been considered.
The scarring is of course different for each individual but you won’t be left with no scarring at all and I just wonder if this is something that would make you self conscious as you start getting into relationships.
Also breast shape and size changes over time and some people actually end up with a rather small chest, especially after breast feeding children etc.I’m just putting this out there for you to consider..ultimately the choice is yours :)))

This is a very helpful topic 🙂 great answers by the doctor!

I just wanted to add that if anyone is ever reading this back because they have questions about it, and they have questions about the experience rather than the medical side… I had a breast reduction four months ago and I’d be happy to share my experiences if it helps anyone who is in the same position I was in.

Hello to all… Its really a good discussion about breast augmentation process. Is there any complication which may occur time of breast augmentation ? or generally is it safe to have breast augmentation instead of natural enhancement of breasts ? Please sort my query…

THANK YOU Olivia for posting my question … I was a little down that I wasn’t going to be able to join the chat … and not only did I get my question answered … but got even more information from the link that Dr Miroshnik posted! Was so interesting reading through everyones questions and Dr M’s answers … thank you again!

Hi, yes breast lifts are part of EVERY reduction…because just about all women who need reductions also have a degree of sag. In terms of breast feeding, there is a 33% chance that you will not be able to breast feed post reduction/lift surgery.

    Thanks Dr. Miroshnik!

I also have a question from beautyheaven member Rewalize (Australia)

“I would definitely consider a breast reduction! Is it possible (after a reduction) to get them lifted WITHOUT implants?? And what are the chances of being able to breast feed after a reduction?”
