Do you ever do your makeup while commuting?

Hi beauties,

I’m writing a piece on glam tricks for getting ready on your morning commute and would love to hear from any of you that do/have done your makeup either in the car (passenger seat of course), on the bus, on the train etc. Do you do anything differently than if you were doing your makeup at home? Any tips for doing it quickly and without messing up? Things like that! Comment below!

Thanks xx

Lauren

I get to work very early to pinch free parking before everyone else does lol which means I’m at work at least 45 minutes earlier. I just do my blush, bronzer, apply lip gloss and mascara then walk to work early. I try not to drive and do my makeup haha

Yes in a perfect world we’d all get up earlier to put another load of washing on, empty the dishwasher, get their breakfast ready, make kids lunches cos I couldn’t be bothered doing it after I get home late from work and walking in to help them with their homework, get together the things they need for school that they’ve only just told me about, yell at them for the fifth time to hurry up, chase the little one around cause he doesn’t want to go to the toilet, answer the phone cause my mum is ringing me to tell me that there’s been a car accident on my route, chase the little one around again so he doesn’t go to my mothers in his pyjamas, tie shoelaces, do her hair, make sure all the doors are shut do the dog can’t get into any of the rooms, grab something out of the fridge or somewhere so that I have something to eat for lunch because the other child has told me they need something for school the next day so instead of going to my mothers for lunch (I work near her) I have to run to the shops, chase the little one again cos he’s run off with my phone and throwing a tanty…

But The kids are handy! The most I do when I’m the driver is my lippy at the stoplight and they tell me when the light goes green.

I have applied makeup when I’m the passenger but hubby thinks it’s hilarious to use the brake a little more aggressively than usual when I’m trying to do my lips.

I am a hypocrite, today I had to paint my nails while sitting on the train on way to BH event. In my defence the carriage was almost empty and we were still sitting at the station. Please forgive me!

I almost grabbed my nail polish to do a quick paint job on the train – then though better of it Am1851!

However I was 5 mins early and could have done it on the platform (open air) so excuse my nude nails today!

I think it is so wrong to apply make up while you are travelling with other passengers. Having been a train traveller for many years with a 1.5 hr journey I have witnessed a woman do a full make up on the train. She had all her stuff in a bag and started the full routine, even considering her eyebrows and what needed plucking. It was both awful and fascinating to actually watch, but I think this is something that should be done in the privacy of your own home. Then again, just giving your hair a touch up comb, patting some refresher face powder, blush etc and lipstick – all which will only take 1-2 minutes is OK, I think. I am guilty of this quick fix so can’t criticise this action.

Another thing that I found annoying was a lady using an emery board – scratch, scratch, scratch – in a QUIET carriage. It annoyed me and another passenger actually got up and spoke to this woman as the sound just carried through the carriage. Again, I am guilty of fixing one nail that may be a bit ragged, but not the entire manicure thing on public transport.

On the other hand if you are commuting by private vehicle there is nothing stopping you from doing what you need in your private space, as long as you are not also driving.

Id rather apply my makeup at home than having people watch me apply my makeup.. I find it a little awkward!!

I rather apply my makeup at home before going out that way I make sure its right & I’m not in a rush doing it, I’ve only did it once when I was out for a concert went to the ladies room & the lightning wasn’t very good so prefer to do this at home.

I did my makeup on the train for years – but I worked night shift so the train was basically empty.

Now and then I got funny reactions. One time there was a young guy sitting nearby talking to his friend on the phone about their police academy training, and after he hangs up the phone comes over and asks me – genuinely concerned – “Doesn’t that hurt?!” while pointing at my lash curler LOL

Have your staples, keep it simple, lots of practise.

My BIGGEST tip for eyeliner on public transport… don’t do liquid liner. Line with a small angled brush and high quality, jet black eyeshadow. Same effect, less room for error.

No way! The makeup is always done before I leave home. I just don’t like drawing attention to myself.

However, I’m intrigued by women who apply their makeup on trains and buses. Tiny little mirrors (and I’ve even seen perfect makeup application done without a mirror), brushes and hands flying all over the place. As for me, I need a giant magnifying mirror, so imagine carrying that around.

I don’t travel on public transport often I mainly drive, but personally think that this is something that needs to be done at home though. A bit of lippy to apply is fine but not a full face of makeup…

I’d rather get up early & do my full face of makeup than risk trying to do it on the train etc. If I’m running late, then I’ll put my lipstick on when I’m seated again, but otherwise I won’t bother applying makeup. I’m with MerryGoRound in that if it’s not done before I leave, then it never will be unless like mis8 I take my products with me & stop off at the ladies to apply it. That’s only happened a few times though.
