In search of the perfect daily sunscreen product!

Hi everyone 🙂

So I’ve been getting more and more into using sun protection frequently (I’m originally from western Europe where it isn’t as big as in Australia, plus I worked night shifts for years) and I am having trouble finding a product that actually works WELL with my specific needs.

I have combination skin that is fairly acne prone, and it doesn’t take very much for my forehead (or rather, fivehead) to look oily – many SPF products I have tried made me either break out or look really shiny.

Additionally I have developed very sensitive eyes and when my Neutrogena SPF moisturizer gets anywhere near my eyes (which it always seems to end up doing throughout the day) I get really irritated, red eyes.

So I’m looking for a product with adequate protection that doesn’t make me look/feel oily, doesn’t completely wash me out in terms of colour AND irritates my eyes as little as possible.

I’ve heard good things about La Roche but they have so many products I don’t really know where to start.

Anyone with similar requirements who’s found their holy grail?

Thank you so much in advance 🙂

Nell

Try Sunsence Invisible, goes on like a dream, no white cast. Has zinc in it.

I absolutely love La Roche-Posay and would definitely recommend it for a daily product!

i use the mecca costmetica sunscreen (SPF 50+) – has a really nice finish and doesn’t create breakouts on my skin!

I’ve been using a $7 Nivea daily SPF moisturizer (SPF15 was all I could find 🙁 ) and it’s been fantastic so far. No burning eyes, no shiny face – so much better. I’m so sad that it seems it was specifically Neutrogena products causing my issues with SPF. I love Neutrogena so much otherwise!

The new Nivea sunscreen 50+SPF for the face looks interesting but I’m so happy with the Olay Complete defence one I might stick with it.

I find neutrogena face works well. It’s spf 50 as well as light and mattifying.

    Hi Nell,

I double layer my sunscreen using La Roche Posay Toleriane (chemical) and Moo Goo (physical), I then apply a layer of mineral makeup SPF 15 for protection against HEV (visible light).

You could a shortcut using Natural Instinct Tinted sunscreen or Colorescience Powder Sunscreen.

I am becoming increasingly concerned about the effects of chemical sunscreens on the skin as well as the environment, so I would highly recommend a physical sunscreen (typically zinc oxide). Some people have problems with dimethecone, which tends to clog pores. Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane can disintegrate into phenol (very toxic) when exposed to UV light (yikes).

With that being said (after checking the ingredients of the sunscreens on your list; *geek out), the sunscreen on your list which I would most likely purchase is the Invisible Zinc SPF 50+ Face and Body or Life Basics – SPF 30 All Natural Facial Sunscreen .

I really love the Moogoo one! Feels more like a moisturiser and keeps skin soft and hydrated. Never had sunburn while wearing it either so it is actually working!
Its a moisturiser and sunscreen in one really. I also have oily acne prone skin which is very sensitive and it has worked great for me
