fake tanning

hi, just after some advice as i am new to fake tan :p the other day i picked up some garnier Ambre Solaire No Streaks Bronzer Micro Mist
at priceline for just $4 so i thought it would be worth a try. I’m just unsure of whether you should still use moisturiser at the same time? before/after?

I always thoroughly exfoliate first then apply a body lotion on my knees, elbows, feet & face. then apply the tan. my choice of preference is St tropez mousse. Never found a better one, the colour is to die for & it lasts forever. i then use a cheapie spray (Face of australia one is $10 & a way better colour than the Le Tan) & use that on my hands

also a good trick for a spray one is to apply it in your shower cubicle. then you can just wash it down when you’re done, no need for towels or it getting into your exhaust fan.

sorry -just read you didnt like it! sorry to hear that! I really recommend the Le-tan in bronze tanning cream -I got the one with a sponge applicator but havnt used the sponge! I prefer just using my hands and washing them well after! nice colour! dont forget to test it on your belly first!!

I just bought the le-tan in bronze fake tan. My tips are no matter what brand you are working with start with a small amount. Start on your belly-that way you can really test the colour-check for best application techniques and all that! also if you end up not liking the colour you can always hide you belly for a few days. Also make sure you RUB it in REALLY well!!! rub rub rub! very important! So far I’m really liking the colour! very even too! yay! I hope you are happy with yours too steph! Ive tried garnier and that one works well too!

i always exfoliate first so that you don’t end up with darker mark and then apply the tan daily or as per needed.

thanks for all the tips everyone, i tried the spray on one a few times that I bought but It just didn’t look that great, bit streaky and all, so i went back to the palmers gradual one which i find is really good (much easier and streak free too!)

    Ohh Im too slow hehehe….
I have used this product before, I like it… Best results for me….
    Exfoliate… must must must!
Then I apply a plain (non-greasy) moisteriser and let that soak into skin for 10-20 minutes…
Then I would lay down dirty old towels all over my bathroom.
And put on rubber gloves and spray the product over parts of my body and then rub in gently, working in sections as to make sure I wouldn’t miss any bits..
I would also use in conjunction with other tanners…
But sometimes it helps for the hard to reach spots like in the top middle of my back….
The moisteriser for me acts as a primer, and therefore the tanner doesn’t go darker on the dryer parts of my skin…

ive tried a lot of fake tans, some of the best being,

    Garnier summer body – medium/dark.
the colour of that is very natural and warm. unlike others that turn me yellow.the smell is good too. fresh and light. it stays on well, which is good but sometimes hard to get off when exfloliating.

    Palmers natural bronze –
colour is pretty good. i know its ”gradual” but if you stop applying the 2 days, i find on me, it continues to go darker anyway 🙂 any more than 3 coats it starts looking weird. the smell isnt fantastic either.
but it doesnt streak which is a plus.

Le tan deep tan mousse –
i used this when i was obsessed with being dark so i dont actually remember if the colour was impressive to a normal person.
i did find for me, it was drying. but back then i didnt use moisturizer frequently. smell is good also, like coconut. Stains palms horribly so gloves are a must.

    And my most recent,

    Lavera self tanning-
i started using this cos i was guilty about the chemicals.
it is all natural, which i love. and its the only tanner i can use on my face without breaking out.
the smell is kind of like, christmas pudding.
colour is natural, as it should be, with all natural ingredients.

the only things i dont like are the price, its 34$ for 150ml.
    and its hard to find.
then again, people spend tons on st tropez.

    hope i helped.

I love using fake tan – I talked my hubby into it last night and covered him in it! He woke up this morning pleasantly surprised and pleased and now I’ve got his trust with doing it to him I’m going to give him a stronger one next time!

@ jozzzy – After applying it don’t put any clothes on for 10 minutes or so and then put on an old loose dress (that’s what I do) so it doesn’t matter if a bit gets stained on the clothing. Also, so it doesn’t go onto the bedsheets, apply the fake tan a couple of hours before bed and walk around in that old dress before putting your pj’s on. (I also use white sheets and it never goes on them because it’s well sunk into my skin by bedtime.)

@stefaneigh – Almost every time I apply fake tan I also apply a moisturiser straight after I’ve done my whole body because I find this helps blend and massage the fake tan in evenly and smoothly. I also often have moisturiser already on my skin beforehand and I just rub fake tan in over the top.

Besides that, like MML mentions above, exfoliation of the skin beforehand is fantastic because it smooths the skin and gets rid of dry skin. Exfoliation seems to stop it becoming patchy. I exfoliate my skin nearly every day.

Hope some of this helps! : )

As an extremely pale girl who seems to develop unattractive moles with even 10 minutes in the sun, I am considering a stronger fake tan myself now.
I have been using the controversial johnsons gradual tanner (holiday skin one) and thats been going ok, but goes streaky quite a bit.
I really want to try out the garnier one you bought stefaneigh, or any mousse/spray instant tan, but I’m just so afraid of it coming off in bed and its summer now, so I’m extremely worried that if I happen to have a night mare and wake up sweating that the tan hasn’t transferred to my white sheets!
Can anyone give me some advice? 🙂

i always exfoliate other wise you will get darker patches of tan. Make sure you really exfoliate your knees the back of your feet and your elbows they are the most driest part of the body
