What are your top cleansing tips?

Hi beauties, how are you? Hope you’re having a great day so far.

Thought i’d jump in here as I’m currently working on an article about cleansing/skin cleansers, and I’m hoping to gather some cleansing tips from bh editors and skin experts, as well as your lovely selves – I suspect many of you have perfected your cleansing routines over the years and have amazing advice to share!

With this in mind, do any of you have a cleansing tip or two for me to include in the article? It might be to do with the water temperature, the best technique, removing stubborn eye makeup, cleansing on the go, how soon to moisturise afterwards… the possibilities are endless! Haha.

If so, it would be great if you could post them here so I can refer back to them 🙂

Look forward to hearing your best cleansing tips, beauties!

xx

One side is gently exfoliate but I don’t think that really works to be honest. I remove my eye make up buy putting it over my eyes and pressing. I don’t drag it so it doesn’t pull on my skin. Then I whip around the rest of my face using a circular motion and the jobs done.

Yep they are hot pink and look almost exactly the same. The box doesn’t have original on it it just has “Magic Make Up Remover” on it. If you go past a Reject Shop and they have them grab some. I cleanse in the shower and wash it out with soap after every use, squeeze it out and then it’s dry in the morning.

I’m bumping this thread in the hope that Sparkle 77 sees it.

Sparkle 77, did you read my previous post?

    • 7 yrs, 1 mth ago

Sorry Petal I just found it 🙂

I am not sure if the Reject Shop still has them because they marked them down to $3 last year. I am super fussy and they are magic, they get everything off!

Sparkle 77, thanks for your reply. I might order the original cloth from overseas. My nearest Reject Shop is too far away.

I wonder if a microfibre cloth would do the same thing I have some face washer sized ones here I should give it a try and I`ll let you know. Kmart has them.

So I tried the microfibre cloth and it didn`t work any where near as good, it wasn`t as soft and didn`t dry over night. So it was a fail so don`t try it 🙁

Sparkle 77, thanks for your feedback. I`ve been using some cheap microfibre cloths with a creamy cleanser and they work well for me. However, I use a separate eye makeup remover for the eye area.

Petal the cheap microfibre cloths did work a little but they certainly aren`t as soft or do they work as well.

If you get the Reject one you will know what I mean and it removes all of the gunk off my eyes too and I wear the works but my mascara isn`t waterproof.

Go hunting for a magic cloth at The Reject shop 🙂

I have been using a pink Magic Make-up Remover( microfibre towel) for over a year now (maybe longer) and it removes every bit of my make-up. I wet it in the shower, let it cool for a second gently place it on my eyes to get my eye make-up off and then do the rest of my face.

Everyday I wear the works: eyeshadow, liquid eyeliner, pencil eyeliner, mascara, foundation, concealer, blush, lipliner, lipstick. This little pink towel removes everything! I have tested and it really is amazing. No more rashes and it was $6!!

After trying some oil cleansers, oil cleansing has become part of my routine. If I’m lazy at night, I’ll just use an oil cleanser and skip serums and moisturisers as the oil cleansing ritual leaves my skin hydrated and clean. I use wipes on the ocassionally say if I’m at the gym, camping, feeling meh or just too lazy.

Thanks so much for sharing your tips, beauties! We’ll include as many of them as we can in our upcoming article. Watch this space 😉

Because I’m a bit of a self-confessed lazy girl when it comes to my skin care routine, I’m lucky that it doesn’t require too much attention- otherwise I might be in serious trouble!

I use a foam cleanser in the shower – I just love the feeling of it on my face! But when I’m out and about, on holidays, at the gym etc I’m a fanatic for wipes – they are my EVERYTHING and I used them constantly! I always have a packed with me wherever I go – you never know when you’re going to need one!

I love the ‘no muss, no fuss’ approach to wipes. They’re easy, super convenient and do a more than satisfactory job at cleaning my complexion after a long day.

I do the opposite of many of you! I HATE the heat, so even in winter I have lukewarm showers, but when I cleanse my face, I use a face washer as hot as I can comfortably tolerate to scrub off the residue from my cleanser. I’m not gentle either – I scrub like I’m scrubbing off sh–! I reckon it’s good for the circulation.

Eye makeup remover: I’ve tried a few, but the most effective is plain old baby oil on a cotton ball. I’m trying to use as few disposable cotton balls as possible. I bought some reusable cotton makeup pads online. I throw them in the washing machine in a delicates bag with a towel load. I won’t repurchase these reusable cotton pads: I’m going to make my own in future!

Cleaning cleansing brush heads: my Olay cleansing brush is brilliant, but I can no longer buy replacement brush heads. I’ve got a few boxes of them stashed, but to make each brush head last longer, I sterilise it periodically using Milton sterilising solution. I bought the bottle originally to use to sterilise my menstrual cup each month, but now I’m in menopause – HALLELUJAH!

Makeup wipes: I only use makeup wipes when I’ve got a migraine. When I’m sick, I just fall into bed, I’m lucky to take off my shoes first. I keep the makeup wipes in my bedside drawers. If you use makeup wipes regularly, don’t use them as your sole cleansing method! Use them to remove makeup, then follow with proper cleanser. If you know you’re too lazy to remove your makeup after a late night out, at least keep makeup wipes at your bedside.

Warm water but not too hot as to irritate the skin (shower is a great time for this as the steam opens up the pores).
The best technique I have found is to remove heavier skin makeup with a foaming cleanser, but a creamy cleanser is better if you have dry skin.
Eye make-up removed as much as possible prior to shower, I prefer oil based.
After cleansing, pat dry face (not scrub as this is damaging) and apply appropriate toner, leave to dry before next step.
I Apply a layer of anti-ageing lift cream to my face & neck, and top that with a Simple brand lightweight SPF 15+ day or night cream depending on time of day.
Once a week I exfoliate at home with a fine grain exfoliating cream
and sometimes use a deep cleansing mask.

    Don’t sleep with make-up on.
Don’t forget to use sunscreen every day.
Start anti ageing products before you notice the signs of ageing.
    Good sleep is important.

The effort is worth it ! 🙂

I was definitely guilty of over-cleansing when I first started a skin regime years ago. I thought at the time oil is bad we have to get rid of it. So I used the clinique 3 step thing with the bar of soap, the lotion 2 toner (paint stripper in a bottle!) and used their yellow dramatically different cream. 6

Yeah the only thing that became dramatically different was my skin – went from reasonably healthy to dehydrated, no moisture barrier and consequently pumping out oil in insane amounts to compensate trying to fix itself. I did this 3 times a day (once in the am, then when I got home or after gym and again before bed). The right products for your skin should help it, not harm it.

I still do 3 cleanses a day, in the am then take my makeup off then before bed. I have no problems with my skin doing this but if I were using the wrong products then it could be disastrous.
