Skincare containing Hyaluronic Acid

So anti-aging products containing hyaluronic acid are everywhere right now. So many of the products in my bathroom contain this so called wonder ingredient but I’ve noticed my skin not looking it’s best lately, kind of dull and the lines just a little more obvious. After a little research I discovered that products containing hyaluronic acid actually needs moisture to work to plump up the skin. Hyaluronic acid works best in high humidity or wet, rainy climates, but not so much in dry environments like our hot Australian summer.

Turns out that hyaluronic acid can hold onto a ridiculous amount of water per atom but without moisture, it is pretty much ineffective. So I started applying my serums and creams to a slightly damp face and throughout the day, spritzing with Uriage Thermal Water over my makeup.

The difference has been quite astounding. I’ve noticed my skin is much more youthful and the lines almost unnoticeable.

Thought I would share my little discovery my fellow beauties and would love to hear if you have heard this before or if you try out the spritzing with a water mist with your hyaluronic skincare, did you notice any difference.

HA is my ultimate life saver.

ThisIsMe I spray my face with water, then apply HA straight away, then I seal everything with either a facial oil or a moisturiser (or both).

Hi Vandab I just recently bought a cream with HA in it and referred back to this. So should I apply my serum on a damp face and THEN the night cream with HA straight after to make it more effective?

I always apply my HA to damp skin at night time and have my humidifier going otherwise the HA alone leaves my skin feeling tight.

I’ve never used HA, I wanted to but then read all these articles and thinking it may not be for my skin. I’m totally lost on what to use these days!

Ooh yes I use a few products that contain hyaluronic acid as well as a hyaluronic acid serum, works very well for my skin; but like you have said, needs to be done properly. Needs to be applied to skin that is just oh so slightly damp and follow immediately with oil/moisturiser otherwise it will do nothing.
The polyglutamic acid sounds awesome, I find hyaluronic works very well for me, definitely have to keep that in mind to try!

HA is a hit or miss but there is a new kid on the block: polyglutamic acid, which holds x4 more moisture than HA. The Inkey List just released it on the market.

      Interesting.

A little research showed me that PGA is the stuff that makes natto slimy!

Not that I`m in any hurry to put natto on my face.

I will give PGA a try.

I’m one that HA does not work for and I use a high moisture multi step Korean regime. High and low molecular weights made no difference and different varieties like marine based etc made no difference. It always leaves my skin feeling tight and dry.

I switched to Beta Glucan and it works like HA, I think this quote sums it up best for my personal experience. “Some studies show that beta glucan is 20% more hydrating than hyaluronic acid at the same concentration“, for me, yep! So if HA doesn’t work for you despite a high moisture routine this might.
