Oils

I’m really interested in using oils on my face and wondering if any of you are regular users. I am particularly interested in neem oil and Passion Fruit Seed Oil. Has anyone tried these? Also, should I go for refined or unrefined oils?

I’d love to know which oils you all have tried and what you’ve found them to be useful for! 🙂 I’m most interested in oils that can be incorporated into my morning skincare routine.

I use Biologi’s Rosehip Oil and I find it really effective and nourishing. I use mine under makeup and at night before bed and my face is always glowing the next day

I’ve reported viskaoil‘s previous post on the “SERIAL SPAM MEMBER ON BH” thread.

Check out Apivita’s website. They sell a selection of beautiful essential oils that you can add to a carrier oil and then apply to body or face – depending on your needs. Some oils assist with certain skin conditions – which they specify on the website. This site is the best I’ve found for a one-stop-shop guide to what to use for what condition, and then you can just order what you need. The oils are a bit pricey, but you only use a couple of drops, so you’ll get a lot of use out of them.

Also Clarins makes some great facial oils (pre-blended for different skin conditions) and their website is quite good/informative as well. I actually got a really good tip from their website – put a few drops of toner into your palm, add a couple of drops of your oil, then massage your palms together gently before “patting” your face. This is a really nice way to apply facial oils.

Neem oil and passion fruit seed oil – I’m sorry, I don’t have any personal experience with either. I often seem them incorporated into other products, but I haven’t seen or tried them individually. I’m really curious to know what you find out though!

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I’m more interested in carrier oils at the moment. Don’t think I would purchase from Apivita as they’re much more expensive compared to buying from a raw/diy ingredients supplier.
I find this site is wonderful for explaining carrier oils: http://www.gardenofwisdom.com/carrieroils.html

I’m more interested in reading personal experiences though 🙂

Unfortunately have no experience of using Neem Oil and Passion Fruit Seed Oil. Though I would recommend Jojoba Oil which is almost identical organically-speaking to sebum, which is the natural oil produced by your skin. As well as being a great natural moisturizer it can also help with acne, Jojoba Oil penetrates into the skin without clogging pores and is suitable for all skin types it contains vitamin E and antioxidants which are great for fighting aging signs and moisturizing the skin.

This article though titled “Massage and Oils” http://www.essenceofwellbeing.com.au/Massage-and-Oils provides information on the main carrier oils and their propertiesbenefits to the skin.

As for should I go for refined or unrefined oils? I would personally go for an “Unrefined” carrier oil which can often be referred to as “100% first-pressed”.

I would stay clear of :
    – “refined” which is generally solvent extracted from the seeds (ie, chemically extracted)
    – “second press” (which is from a second pressing of the same seeds), because it’s often of much lower quality and tends to have additives assist colouring and aroma to make it more retail friendly
    – “blended” which generally contains both unrefined and second-press refined stuff.

    Thanks for your help :).
It does appear that unrefined oils would be the better option. I guess I was confused by the fact that the refined oils cost nearly 4 times as much as the unrefined.

I’m interested in using oils too, my face is combination to oily skin. I have been always scared using oils as i thought it would make my face even more oily.
